Sunday 13th May - Presentation Day

Written by John Reynolds. Posted in Under 6's

Although we had our last training session of the season a few weeks ago, last Sunday saw the annual end of season presentation day and bar-be-que.  Luckily, the weather was kind to us and allowed us to have a bit of a run around before the presentations.

The award winners for the Under 6's were as follows:

Most Improved Player - James Smyth
Best Newcomer - Daniel Newington
Best Defender - Oliver Brandsma
Best Attacker - Ben Reynolds
Player of the Season - Oliver Crofts

As mentioned at the end of the session, all of the lads have improved massively throughout the season and those who are moving up to the Under 7's next season are in good shape to bring in some good results when they start to play competetive matches.

Dan, Damien, Kerry and myself will be moving up to the Under 7's.  Bruce will be staying with the Under 6's next season along with 4 other volunteers, so the section will be well looked after next year.  Thanks for putting yourselves forward guys.

Finally, enjoy the summer, hopefully the weather will pick up and we'll actually see a bit of sun.  Hope to see you all next season.

Cheers !!

Sunday 22nd April - Last session of the season

Written by John Reynolds. Posted in Under 6's

Can you believe it ??  This season seems to have flown by in the blink of an eye.

Despite the usual end of season festivals taking place around this time, it was great to see so many of the lads make it along on Sunday.  It's been pretty clear to see how the lads have improved throughout the season and are looking like proper rugby players now.

The final player of the week award was given to Gregor this week who took part in his last session with the club.  Gregor and his family have supported the section all season and will soon head off down under as they are emigrating to Australia.  Given today's weather and the prospect of another soggy summer in the UK, who can blame them ?  Best of luck in Oz guys.  As mentioned on Sunday, when Gregor returns to the UK in 15 years time as part of the Wallabies touring side, remember where he first learnt to pass a rugby ball.

There's no rugby for us for the next few weeks, but remember that the presentation day is on Sunday 13th May at the main club.  Start time is 10.30, and wear your kit and bring your boots as we'll have a small training session/tag game/something to round off the season.

Finally, I'd like to say thank you to the lads and parents who supported the section throughout the season, through warm sunshine and cold drizzle.  If you guys didn't come along, there'd be no Under 6's.

Hope to see you all back next season.

Cheers !!  John, Dan, Damien, Bruce and Kerry.

Sunday 1st April

Written by John Reynolds. Posted in Under 6's

With last Sunday's date being what it was, we had too good an opportunity not to play a small April fools joke on the lads.  Full credit to all of them who were very keen to set off from the Cowpatch at the start of the session, and run to Kenilworth Castle and back for Sport Relief.
Luckily, Damien and Kerry were stationed next to the club shop to stop any of the lads making it out of the Cowpatch and onto the road.

Another sunny day and another pretty good turnout as we head towards the end of the season.  As you will have noticed from the sessions, we're now putting more emphasis on playing games of tag and developing the skills during the games as the lads have grasped the basics of the game and are now building their confidence on the pitch.

Player of the week this week is Daniel Newington who gave a very good account of himself in the tag game and was the only untagged player in this weeks Bulldog game. Well done Daniel.

As mentioned at the end of last weeks session, there's no training this Sunday (8th April) as it's Easter Sunday.  So have a few easter eggs (but not too many) and enjoy a week off.

Finally, thanks to all those who sponsored Ben Reynolds to run the Sport Relief mile.  Ben made it round the course in a good time and, along with his brother Matthew who scooted round, managed to raise over £200 in the process.  A great effort.

See you all in a couple of weeks.

Sunday 15th April - 1 more week to go !!!!!

Written by John Reynolds. Posted in Under 6's

Yep, just 1 more week to go then you finally get your Sunday mornings back.  This season has flown by in the blink of an eye, it only seems like last week that we started our first session with virtually no kit, 2 harrassed coaches and nearly 40 players.
But, throughout the course of the season and with some help, the sessions have turned into proper structured training that I hope the lads have enjoyed as much as I and the rest of the coaches have.

As you would have seen on Sunday morning, the lads have progressed well and those who will be moving up into the Under 7's next season should be more than a match for any teams they play against.

The new skills the lads have developed can particularly be seen in the games of tag we've been playing where they're now looking for gaps to run through and are also making more passes than ever before and during the Bulldog games where again, alot of the lads can spot a gap and use a bit of speed to make it through.

Attendance this season has been consitently high with several of the lads hardly missing any sessions.  This was reflected in this weeks player of the week who is Ryan Keogh.  Ryan has come along to training throughout the year from the autumn sunshine, through the drizzle and freezing cold of January right through to now and has shown brilliant commitment.  Always willing to get stuck in and have a go, Ryan typifies the spirit of Rugby and will continue to improve as he moves into next season.  Top stuff Ryan, well done.

As mentioned earlier, next Sunday is our last session of the season.  At the end of the session, we'll get all of the lads together under the posts of the main pitch at the Cowpatch for any team photos that you may want to take.

See you all next Sunday.

Sunday 18th March - Mother's Day and Grand Slam weekend!!!

Written by John Reynolds. Posted in Under 6's

A huge thank you to all the mums who came along and braved the soggy weather on Sunday to support the lads during training.

Numbers were down on last week due to mother's day and the wet weather but fortunately the rain stopped a little way into the session.

Player of the week this week was Charlie who managed to be one of the few survivors in this weeks bulldog game and also provided good support during the tag game earlier in the session.

I'm away this week, taking part in the Sport Relief mile, so I'll see you all in a couple of weeks.
