U7s Leamington Festival 22nd April and Info re Kenilworth Festival Sunday 29th April
What a treat is was for nick and I as coaches to see the way the 7s played on Sunday in the Leamington tournament. They have really developed individual skills over the year but more importantly are now playing really well as a team/s and continue to enjoying playing.
Nick and I have witnessed some great camaraderie and also respect to the other teams, coaches and referees last weekend. It was great to be there.
Thanks to Richard Moon and the other dads and mums for taking responsibility for one of the teams. Nick and I couldn't have managed without you. I would also like to mention Neil Brison for his help in not just last week’s tournament but most weeks in helping organise the kit both before and after training / matches.
I've also spoken to Richard who informs me that the 7s at the cow patch (the cabbage patch as Richard calls it) performed just as well and showed the same values.
Now onto this weekend, our festival, which we have entered 3 teams. Please aim to be there for 10.15 ish so we can complete a role call at 10.30.
Parking will be a challenge and obviously the ground will be very wet so please give enough time to get there.
Look out for a blue gazebo next to the U7s pitches as that will be our base for the day. I have also been assured that the BBQ will be starting early so I don’t envisage any big queues (45 mins wait at Leamington).
Bring your cameras too as we'll be having a team photo at 10.35. We'll then complete a couple of drills before the games start at 11am. We should wrap up around 3.15pm. Please also bring wet weather gear including coats and changes of clothing for the players as the weather forecast is for rain.
Should be great fun for all
Oh, just one more thing and just for parents. As we are at season end and to celebrate an enjoyable year with the 7S can you make Friday 18th May for a drink at the almanac and maybe a curry afterwards. Let me know if you are up for it.
For the Record – Leamington Festival Results
Ken 1 Won 4, L1
Fantastic performances in all the games by all the players, great team spirit and showed respect to all.
Ken 2 Won 4- Drew 1
Saw great improvement of defence as games progressed Ewan and Areillio put up a strong performance against rivals Broad Street which ended in a draw.
Ken 3 Drew 2, Won 2
Last game not played as OL went home. Saw great team work and discipline of attacking and defence lines which resulted in 2 clear wins and 2 draws.
All the Best Andrew

Weekend of 9/10/11 March - 7s Bournemouth Tour and Training
Weekend of 9/10/11 March 7s Tour to Bournemouth and Training at the Cow Patch
3 degrees and very wet to a barmy 16 degrees and sunny, what a difference a week makes!
Training at the Cow Patch
At the home of English sport, Richard and Glen had a fantastic time coaching 14 boys. They focused on passing laterally, games of tag, and 2 v 1 with the emphasis on the ball carrier off loading the ball to there teammate before being tagged. Great stuff.
7s and 9s Tour to Bournemouth
The tour party travelled down on Friday after school to Sandford Holiday Park, Bournemouth. Most of the party arrived around 7.30 and for the ones who were taking their preparation seriously for the games the next day were tucked up in bed by 10pm.
On Saturday we travelled to Bournemouth RFC in convoy to start with where we played in a triangular tournament against the hosts and Wells RFC from Somerset. Nick and I just about made the start; you can ask Nick about this this Sunday. Anyway, the 7s played 3 games and won them all. Star player, well there wasn’t one, they all played well; George for his tackling, Joe for running, Harrison for all round game, Will for supporting the ball carrier and Reagan for his try scoring. After the tournament and a bite to eat, most of us headed to the beach and sea. In the evening the 9s joined us for dinner and a couple of games.
We woke on Sunday to further blue sky again. For breakfast it seemed that most of the touring party joined Joe, Nick, George and I for bacon sandwiches and our luxury caravan. After a lot of washing up we travelled to Lytchett Minster and played 3 games, 2 wins and a draw, great effort 7s.
This Sunday 18th March
This Sunday we are away at Berkswell & Balsall. Please be there for 10.15 for a prompt 10.30 start.
Address below. Parking is limited, so please share lifts where possible.
Honiley Road, Meer End
Nr Balsall Common
Warwickshire. CV8 1NQ
Please note - It’s really important that the 7s are dressed appropriately for the weather / conditions during training and matches; some of the payers at Straford just didn’t have the right kit on to start the session. In regards to responsibility of your child’s welfare when the session starts at 10.30 until the session is complete we see it as a joint responsibility between you and us as a coaching team.
All the best, Andrew
