With a disappointing season drawing to a close, finally we have some good news to announce for the forthcoming 17/18 season.
Following constructive talks and a very energetic and well-received training session, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Whitehead as Senior Coach along with current player Chris Pemble as Assistant Player-Coach, for next season.
Chris Whitehead’s career as a Hooker took him to a variety of leading clubs such as Leicester, Bedford, Coventry, London Wasps, London Welsh and finally Exeter Chiefs (under the guidance of Rob Baxter) before his career was cruelly cut short by a neck injury.
Chris also represented England at U-16, U-18 and U-19 level, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, which I’m sure will be an asset to both the coaching team and Kenilworth RFC moving forward.
Chris Pemble, a front-row forward, also joins our coaching team. Chris currently plays 1st XV rugby here at Kenilworth, having joined us last year from Sutton Coldfield RFC, where he was also Player/Coach.
Chris’ previous clubs include Moseley Colts, Reading, Brothers (Australia), Nuneaton and Barnstaple, with representation at England U-18 level.
Dan Careless will now become Strength & Conditioning Coach for the club, working closely with the other coaches and players to ensure that we are in the right condition for next season. He will also be conducting 1-on-1 sessions with those players who are focused on achieving improved weight levels, fitness and stamina.
I’m sure you will join all of the players and I in welcoming Chris Whitehead to the club, whilst congratulating Chris Pemble on becoming Player/Coach and Dan on becoming our Strength & Conditioning Coach.
I’m very enthusiastic and looking forward to working with all three of them, in the first instance to gain promotion back to where we should be and with the longer term aim of establishing ourselves in Midlands 1 and then progressing further.
All the very best,
Head Coach, Kenilworth RFC
