New KRFC shirt 2007-2008 SeasonKenilworth RFC are pleased to announce a new style strip for their return to Midlands 1 in season 2007/2008. The strip will have matching shorts and will have its first official outing in the away game at Loughborough Students on Sept 8th.
Replica shirts will be available from the club at the start of the season.

KENILWORTH BARBARIANS - An initial report from Dave Smith

Yep, It was the most amazing evening and day of my life. We won 27-19 and were down 19-17 until the last 10 minutes.

We sat in the changing rooms 1 minute before the match in total silence and just looked around at each other, and after the match the same happened, nothing needed to be said, and then Toddy (Blackadder) stood up and said "well that's about as good as it gets", and we all stood up and congratulated each other. It was about the most emotional moment I've ever experienced.

I will be forwarding the video shortly and giving Elliot a copy to bring home with him on the 1 August, he's made up.

We celebrated intil 5 in the morning and then throughout the next day and I felt like shit at work today!

The local paper have received the match details but I will forward my own report shortly.

Thank you to everyone for all the support I have been given, I'm still on cloud nine.

Jeff , Roly, Tony, Tak, both Marks, were magnificent and played like gladiators, it was a privilege to be in their company.

As at 1st June

Hi there Willie, All well here with the local press going frantic about the game!

Elliott Brown is currently on Queenstown but has been in constant touch with me about the game and is desperate to play.

I have made Todd Blackadder captain on the night as I saw him at Riwaka last Saturday and he said he is even in training for the game and so is Roly whom I spoke to tonight. I will probably last about 10 minutes but will give it my all, so sod my back and body!

The local reaction to this game is electric and there is another big call in the local paper this week.

Have arranged for the video recording of the game and will forward.

The harvest of the olives is virtually over and it has been a bumper year so all credit to Deb as I have had to work most days, but tell Jamesy I have lost 2 stone now so he is now the only fat b****** in the club apart from Teflon!

Deb will be bringing a couple of the shirts I have had made back with her, so either raffle them or hold an auction- leave it to Peter Blakeman to decide.

Newly promoted and ambitious Kenilworth RFC are already making preparations for their return to the top echelon of Midlands rugby this season. The coaching staff of Ian Fergusson, Pete Roberts and Darren Garforth have put together a preseason programme which begins at their Glasshouse Lane headquarters on July 3rd at 7pm. The warm up match schedule is currently being arranged. They are looking to strengthen their senior squad in a number of positions with some players already being identified as potential recruits. Already signed up is back row forward Dan Careless from Old Leamingtonians. Any new player who may be interested in joining should contact Rugby Chairman Dom Carrick on 07989 444438 or email the club website at krfc@appliedgeology.co.uk.

The AGM of the club is to be held on June 27th at 8pm.

The next Quiz Night is Friday 15th June.

As at 1st June - an email from Dave Smith in South Island, New Zealand

Hi there Willie, I have contacted all the Kiwis that have played for KRFC over the years and have formed a team called Kenilworth Barbarians, and we are playing a Nelson Bays select side on Tuesday 26 June at Riwaka RFC under lights at 6.30. The only one who can't make it is Donk.

Being a Barbarians side I have a few guests, such as Todd Blackadder and Graham Thorne and was hoping to get Tana Umaga but have been unable to contact him.

I have had shirts made up in the colours of Kenilworth when I first played for them and will be raffling 2 of them to help cover the cost which is $2000., Speights Brewery are giving me 5 kegs of beer and the local Tavern $300 and providing 2 pigs on a spit roast and entertainment. Terry Crafar is donating $200 and the local St Johns ambulance free of charge.

Graham Thorne’s son is a quadraplegic due to a collapsed scrum and I am charging all spectators $1 to go towards sign language tuition for him and his family.

The local papers are doing free advertising and it should be a very nostalgic evening for all.

I hope to get a video made of the game so you can have an evening at the club to show everybody.

I can't wait, cheers for now Smudger (Dave Smith)

As at 1st June

Messrs Ferguson, Garforth and Umaga have agreed that pre season training will commence on Tues 3rd July – if you know of any new players at any level then please let them know.

Congratulations go to Luke Brown, Lee Cassell and Pete Roberts who over the last few weeks have helped Warwickshire reach the upper tier of County Rugby.

Friday 15th June is another Quiz Night at the club – commencing 8.30 with cash prizes.

Please give Adrian’s Big Apple Ball a thought for the 23rd June – it is for a very good cause and details have already been issued.

Please note that the AGM is set for the 27th June at the club, 8pm. Turnout over the past few years has been poor, to say the least, and it would be nice to think we would have a bigger turnout on the 27th.

I have now received the ‘punishment’ from the RFU over some of our International tickets appearing on eBay – we have received a 10% reduction in our allocation for next year – suspended. Let this be a lesson to us all.

As at 30th April

We came, we went, we conquered. In a rough and tumble and bad tempered game in St Helier, which saw a yellow card for Darren Garforth in the first ten minutes, Kenilworth came out winners 15-12 against Jersey with tries for Nick Collett and James Burnside and one con and one pen by Mark Hill.

In the threes game back home we came second best being beaten 60-5 by Rugby St Andrews - a nice touch here being the appearance for the last ten minutes in a Kenilworth shirt by Wayne Morgan. Lewis Jones was the try scorer.

As at 23rd April

Bad news to all our world-wide readers. We lost the Warwickshire Cup Final yesterday, 22-7, our first defeat since 28th October. We could argue that the Broadstreet No7 should have walked early in the game for raining in at least four punches but he stayed on, not even a yellow card, but really, we put in a very disappointing perfomance in a game totaly bossed by Broadstreet. Only a very late Gareth Renowden try saved a clean sheet for us. An injury to James Hersey who had to elave the field in the first half did not help.

Having said that it is congratulations to Broadstreet and we now see what we have to do to live in Midlands 1 next season.

On the previous day the Colts put in a superb performance to defeat Leamington Colts 21-15, at Leamington. This has been a great first season for Kenilworth’s young Colt’s, a mixture of under 18’s and under 17’s, who are all still eligible to play colt’s rugby next year.

The final analysis is: played 23 won 16 lost 7, for 508, against 202.

Next weekend our first XV squad are off to Jersey where they have been invited to play against the local team in St Helier. Jersey have just finished third in London 2 south (equivalent league to us) and our boys are flying out on Saturday morning and returning on Sunday morning. If anyone fancies joining them they are going Thomson from Coventry.

As at 20th April

o It is the Warwickshire Cup Final on Sunday at The Butts and we take on our old foes Broadstreet, 3pm kick off. Here’s hoping the ones can finish the season in style with a classic league and cup double.

o The club will be open before the game but will be closed during the game and will re-open around 45minutes after the end.

o A supporters coach is being laid on and this will leave the club at around 1.45 and return 45minutes after the end of the game. Please speak to Ian Hadwin re this.

o After the game the club will be open till the last guy leaves – win or draw!

o Our colts are playing at Leamington with a 2.30 kick off. There are no other games on.

o On the TV there will be the Heineken Cup semi between Leicester & Llanelli.

o The Main Pitch & Training Pitch were reseeded yesterday (total cost = £1200), please keep off & use the other Cowpatch pitches as necessary. This is the final part of the £10K pitch renovation programme as part of the RFU Groundmatch grant. Colin will be putting up signs again but at the moment there’s not enough rope to go around both pitches.

o You are also reminded that it is the 200 Club Draw tonight with big, big prizes.

o Next Wed (25th) Kenilworth Second XV, sorry South Warwickshire, take on Coventry & District in the Interdistrict Final – to be played at The Butts.

o Next weekend the Minis & Juniors are holding their annual Festival at the cow patch on both the Saturday and the Sunday – all facilities will be there including car parking, a bar, food and a bog!

o On the 5th May is the Harold Stillwell cup at Stratford where we will be defending our success of last year.

o The Club Dinner is on 11th May at Stoneleigh Golf Club and a list is up in the club. If you fancy some golf beforehand then speak to Dom Carrick who has arranged some afternoon tee off times.

o The Earlsdon Sevens are on 12th May and if there are any of our guys standing after the Club Dinner we may well have a team in there as well.

o There is no news as yet of a Warwickshire Sevens and it is likely that it will go the same way as last year and not take place.

o The Minis & Juniors are having a May Ball at the Warwickshire on Sat 26th May and if you fancy this then speak to Dave Blackburn.

o If you also fancy a Black Tie Dinner at the club then Mrs Adrian Marsh has organised a “Big Apple Ball: on Sat 23rd June at a cost of £27 per ticket. This is in aid of The Children’s Society. Contact Adrian if you fancy attending this.

As at 16 April

A truly wonderful league season was crowned on Saturday by a trip to the lovely setting of Bridgnorth when a ridiculous large number of K''s supporters were treated to an unspectacular but good win over a plucky Bridgnorth, 40-12. Six tries were scored by Mark Hill (2), James Hersey, Elliott Brown, Ed Hunter and Nick Collett with Lee Cassell having five out of six conversions. WE ARE NOW THE OFFICIAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS AND THIS WAS DULY CELEBRATED ON THE WAY HOME.

Only Kenilworth could take such a vast number of supporters to an away game and have a pre match lunch in the opposition club to boot!

Next week, Sunday 22nd, is the Warwickshire Cup final at The Butts, v Broadstreet, 3pm kick off. More details of transport later.

On the 25th April we are also supplying around half of the South Warwickshire squad in the final of the interdistrict competition at The Butts with Messrs Middleton, Trean, White, Lewis, Hill, Johnson, Driffill, COllett (C) and Careless being selected.

As at 5th April

On a lovely April night in Stratford Kenilworth duly secured our third trophy of the season with a 35-0 win over Shipston in the final of the 20/20 (now Double Top) cup. Our "other" team, the Medics lost out (3-6) in their final to Old Leamingtonians, losing to a superb last minute drop goal.

As at 3rd April

Another win and sort of celebration to report, this time 41-3 over Newbold in our last home league game of the season. Luke Brown only scored one despite screaming for Robbo to pass the ball to him late on and he now leads the top try scorers by one from the prop from Malvern.

The Pirates had a resounding 75-12 win in their tour match at Dorchester.

This Easter Sat the only scheduled game is the Pirates outing in the memorial game at  Leamington and we have been promised a whole host of guest appearances with three ex Internationalists (all ex or existing KRFC members) hoping to turn out for our boys. Kick off is at 3pm.

Before this you are reminded of our Double Top Final at Stratford on Wednesday 4th April., 8pm kick off.

KRFC News as at 29th March:

o On Sat the ones are at home to Newbold in our last home league game. It is our first game as CHAMPIONS ELECT so please come along and congratulate the boys – they certainly deserve it and I guess there might well be another party after the game. We are at near full strength but coach Ian has given Jai Purewal his first start of the season in the back row and with Powelly returning in the second row this means that Nick Smith and Phil Jones have a wee rest on the bench, along with Jez Noon. Andy Whitehall is the back rested this week following his trip to Hong Kong.

o This is the weekend of the Pirates Tour so there are no second or third XV games.

o The colts have also gone on tour to Belgium (yes Belgium!).

o Next weekend the only game currently planned is a ‘Pirates’ game on the 7 April (Easter Saturday) against Leamington Vets. This is the annual Dave Reeve Memorial Game and is at Leamington RFC, kick off 15.00.

o The following week the ones and twos, and maybe the colts, are away at Bridgnorth for the final league game of the season and a nicer venue we could not have picked. At this point in time there are three coaches going up – a players coach, a Former Players Coach and a ‘private’ coach organised by Deano. The Former Players are having a pre match lunch in the clubhouse and if you fancy going on this then contact Pete Boyle or Geof Jordan. If you do not want to go to the FP’s lunch then there may still be space on their coach and there is a list in the club where you can add your name. The players coach is threatening to take the long winding road home with a few stop offs whilst the FP coach will be sensible and come home soon after the game ends and I guess a few might go up in the FP coach and back in the players coach, or up in the Players and back in the FP’s – no doubt leaving a few up there! Well it is not everyday we win a league title.

o If you have not already heard then Warwick School won the Daily Mail Cup at Twickenham yesterday (wed 28th) – beating St Barnards Castle School 24-23 in a very exciting game. Well done Warwick. We have a wee bit of affinity with them as they have given us Sam Wood and Jake Povey this year and a few others a few years back. Here is hoping we can continue the good relationship and some help from them in our Midlands 1 season next year.

o After Bridgnorth we have a Cup Final to go to on the 22nd April and this will be against either Broadstreet or Old Laurentians who play their semi final next Thursday (April 5th) at Leamington with a 7pm kick off.

o On the 4th April at Stratford we have another cup final, the Double Tops, against Shipston at Stratford with an 8pm kick off. Tony P has announced his s quad which is: C Collett, R Booth, P Erueti, M Johnson; D Dingley, P Derby, T Bell; J Wombwell-Povey, T Driffill, J Purewal, D Carrick; M Hill, S Lewis; M Thomas, J Middleton, L Brown, M Bennett, A Trean, A Povey, C Sibley. Kenilworth Medics are also playing in the Shield final at 19.00.

o We have had the following players selected for S Warks vs Rugby & District at Rugby Lions on Tuesday 3 April, Kick Off 19.30. (Players to meet at Web Ellis Rd at 18.15). The selected ones are: Adam Trean, Russ White, Jimmy Middleton, Sam Lewis, Mark Hill, Rhidian Booth, Mark Johnson, Chris Collett, Drew Dingley and Tim Driffill. It is well done to all these guys.

o In their game last week South Warwickshire defeated Coventry and Mid Warwickshire 32-26 with Kenilworth lads scoring five of the six tries – Adam Trean with 2, Sam Lewis, Mark Johnson and Mark Hill. Sam was also successful with a conversion.

o Details of a sort of end of season Tour have been circulated – this being to London to take in the Churchill Cup and to witness Scotland retaining their trophy. It is the weekend of the 2nd June and let Dickie know if you want to go.

As at 19th March

Well boys we have done it and we were crowned Midlands 2 west Champions on Saturday following our 128-0 win at Stafford (yes, one hundred and twenty eight!) and Burton's 10-5 defeat at Solihull. Celebrations went on well into the night, (I am told!) and good they were to.

A total of 20 tries were scored with Luke Brown claiming five, Gareth Renowden four and Mike Umaga three and a whole host of others. Lee Cassell was successful with fourteen conversions and we thought our score might have been a league record till we heard that Worthing had defeated Guildford 146-0 on the same day. Our ref blew up with six minutes to go so what might have been. I think I can safely say it is a club record win.

The twos got back to winning ways - this I know but I do not know the score or scorers or even who we played - lost in the haze of Sat night so if anyone out there does know then please let me know.

The threes lost at Shottery 7-19 with a try and conversion by Dave Finlay.

The colts went to Belgrave and won 21-19.

As at 15th March

o On Sat the ones area away at Stafford (3pm kick off) and the long and short of it is that if we win this, and Burton drop a point in a difficult looking fixture at Solihull, then we will be champions. Even if Burton win and we win then all but a disastrous remaining two games will see us champions. If it is this latter scenario then a win in the home game with Newbold at home on Sat 31st March will see us definitely crowned champions – get there early as it might be quite busy!

o It looks as if we will be at near full strength tomorrow. Rhidian Booth is set to replace Ed Hunter and Elliott Brown is being rested in front of his Midlands U20 debut on the Sunday – we wish him well.

o The twos are in the pool for a game on Sat and the threes are away at Shottery.

o Our very successful colts are away at Belgrave but next Sunday, 25th, they are at home to Yardley & District, kick off 11.30.

o More good news on the representative front is that Andy Fox, Adam Trean, Jimmy Middleton, Sam Lewis, Mark Johnson, Drew Dingley and that well known South Warwickshire guy, Mark Hill, have all been selected for South Warwickshire for a game at Stratford RFC on 21st March, 7.30pm kick-off. There is a further game on Wed 3rd April.

o The Double Tops Final will now be played Wed 4th April at Stratford, kick off 7pm.

o I would like to advise that a decision has now been made regarding the member who attempted to sell his International tickets on eBay. He has been banned from applying or receiving tickets from the club for a period of five years. Our procedures and actions taken have now been reported to the RFU and a decision on our fate will be taken at their meeting in April. Soundings with the RFU suggest that our actions are acceptable to them but that we may well suffer a decrease in our allocation for the next batch of tickets.

o On Friday night (16th March) there is a St Patricks Night Quiz – start at 8.30 – with cash prizes.

o Please remember that due to our exploits last week we are now in the Warwickshire Cup Final to be played at The Butts, Coventry on Sunday 22nd April against either Broadstreet or Old Laurentians who play their semi final on 5th April.

o Our final league game of the season – hopefully to celebrate a league championship win in big style, is at Bridgnorth on 14th April and a nicer venue we could not have picked. At this point in time there are three coaches descending on Bridgnorth – the first XV squad and hangers onners, a Former Players Coach (being organized by Pete Boyle) and a 16 seat Executive Coach being organized privately by Dean Stephenson.

o Someone has asked if they have to apply separately for the pre World Cup warm up games – the answer is no – please send all applications with cheques etc to me and I will process as per normal.

As at 12th March

We have a Cup Final to go to! - April 22nd at The Butts in the Warwickshire Cup v either Old Laurentians or Broadstreet.

We are there because of a 26-10 win over Newbold in a game we totally dominated and, really, should have scored a lot more tries than we did. James Hersey, Pete Roberts, Gareth Renowden and Andy Whitehall all scored with Mike Umaga (2) and Lee Caseell (1) sharing the conversions.

The two's had no game.

KENILWORTH 3’s 62 CLAVERDON 10

Try scorers were Charlie Brown (2), Mark Bennett (2), Chris Sibley (1), Chris Wheatley (1), Simon Bladon (1), Dave Blackburn (1), Graham Ballinger (1) and Mark Johnson (1). Chris Wheatley (yes Chris Wheatley!) successful with four cons and Gary Stephens with two.

LEICESTER VIPERS COLTS 5 KENILWORTH COLTS 34

Next Sat away at Stafford (3pm kick off) where a win and Burton dropping a point will see Kenilworth crowned champions. Even a win will 99.9% secure the title on points difference, all bar a disaster.

As at 5th March

The winning run continues and it is now fourteen consecutive wins to leave us one win to get to almost be there (on points diffference) and definately if Burton drop another point. Our next league game is Stafford away on 17th March - dare we celebrate if we win and it is on points difference!

Saturday was a real tough test and a lot of credit goes to Lichfield for a superb and gutsy performance - effectively their last chance of grabbing the play off spot. Our two try scorers in a 19-14 win were Rob Varney - the London Pride Man of the Match, and Elliott Brown with Mike Umaga squeaking over two pens in the first half and Lee Cassell sealing it late in the second.

Our high flying seconds (albeit weakened) came up against the buffers on Sat against Lichfield two's and lost 13-50. Jai Purewal was our only try scorer and the rest of the points came from Sam Lewis.

The three's did not play.

Another bad result came back with the colts who exited from the Warwickshire Cup with a 12-15 defeat at Sutton Coldfield.

Next week us posh p****s, Mike Umaga and all, play Newbold, in the Warwickshire Cup Semi at Barkers, kick off 2.15. There is no truth in the rumour that Robbo is taking his Porcshe up there to try and sell.

WORLD CUP WARM UP GAMES

Info on World Cup Warm up games at Twickenham:

England v Wales, 4th August

England v France, 11th August

Applications NO LATER THAN 20th APRIL.

As at 2nd March

o Tomorrow is Lichfield at home with a 3pm kick off. Basically two wins are needed out of the four games left so come on boys another big performance like the last two weeks and we are all but there for a possible touch down at Stafford on the 17th March but more likely, at home to Newbold on the 31st Mar. Keep a look out for Burton’s score at Barkers on Sat – if they drop a point then touch down will be a win at Stafford, providing of course we beat Lichfield and that will not be easy!

o Ed Hunter, James Nicholson and Mike Umaga return to the team but there is no Mark Powell with Phil Jones filling in at second row. It is the turn of Nick Smith, Luke Brown and Lee Cassell to drop to the bench.

o There is a Former Players Lunch before the game, sitting down around 12.45.

o On the last day of the season the Former Players are taking a coach to Bridgnorth for what we hope is party time – see Peter Boyle or Geof Jordan for details.

o Before the game tomorrow Lee Cassell is again offering his infamous school car wash for his South Africa School trip so if you wish your nice clean car to be dirty then pay your £3 (or other donation) and the boys will oblige.

o Before the game there will be a minutes silence for the Warwickshire chaps who have recently died – namely Bob Coward and Rob Scanlon, amongst others.

o The two’s are away at Lichfield but the three’s game with Lichfield was called off by them last night and our lads are in the pool for a home fixture, hopefully.

o Next Sat is the Warwickshire Cup semi with Newbold at Barkers, kick off 2.15. On the same day the other semi is being played between Broadstreet and Old Laurentians at Old Leams. The cup final is on Sunday 22nd April.

o On Wed night (7th) we play in the final of the 20/20 Cup at Stratford against either Stratford or Shipston – big call here as Celtic are paying Milan!

o On Friday 16th Mar there is another Quiz Night at the club – 8.30 start with cash prizes for the winners.

As at 26th Feb

We are still on course for a championship winning landing having negotiated another difficult fixture away at Malvern and coming away with a 24-7 win in difficult conditions. Try scorers were Rob Varney, Glen Eager and Gareth Renowden with Lee Cassell being successful with three conversions and a penalty. Man of the match was second row Ian Phillips - a truly awesome performance. Another two wins out of the four are required but if Burton keep winning then it will still not be really safe and another point will be needed. Our next three games are Lichfield at home on Sat, Stafford away on the 17th March and Newbold at home on the 31st March. In the same period Burton have Barkers away, Solihull at home and Malvern at home. Exciting times indeed and do not be away during March!

SILHILLIANS 2s 0 KENILWORTH 2s 49

Another seven try romp for the KRFC second string with star of the show being Jai Purewal with four tries. Singles for Paul Whitehurst, Tim Driffill and Nick Hillard. Four conversions by Glyn Owen and three for Sam Lewis (who departed at half-time to head north for a party!).

Third XV game at Old Laurentians was cancelled.

MELTOM MOWBRAY COLTS 5 KENILWORTH COLTS 47 - a superb win for our very successful colts.

Next week prior to the Lichfield fixture (3pm kick off) there is a Former Player's Lunch.

Our 20/20 final opponents will be either Stratford or Shipston on 7th March at Stratford. They play there semi final on 28th Feb at Stratford.

Who says that the guys in KRFC are not posh!

Willie,

Could you please forward this around. I am looking for around the £17000 ono, its valued for about a thousand more.

The car is:

Porsche Boxter, Facelift Model, Metallic Basalt Black with Black Power hood and Black Suede/Leather. Air Bag, Alarm, Body Coloured Bumpers, CD Player, Electric Adjustable Mirror, Immobilizer, Remote Central locking, Full Porsche service history (38000 miles), New Brakes & discs all round. 18 Carrera alloys, Wind Deflector, immaculate.

Cheers Robbo (07766695646)

As at 23rd Feb

o The final countdown to the winning of the championship begins in earnest tomorrow when we visit Malvern for a very difficult looking away game as Malvern appeared to have beefed up a little since we last played them at the start of the season. There are three wins needed from the five games to play for Kenilworth’s first ever league championship (or indeed cup) win at first XV level and this assumes that all the teams below us win their remaining games.

o Malvern have pulled out the second XV game at home and the two’s are/were in the pool for a fixture. The threes are away at Old Laurentians and the colts are also in their pool for an away fixture.

o Next week we revert to 3pm kick offs and we are at home to Lichfield in the league. Prior to this game there is a Former Players Lunch so if you have not received your invite to this and would like to come then let us know ASAP.

o The final Former Players Lunch of the season has been reserved for Bridgnorth away on the 14th April and here is hoping this is big party time for the players, former players and supporters.

o Our cup semi final with Newbold has been re-arranged for Saturday 10th March and is to be played at Barkers Butts with a 2.15 kick off. On Tuesday night Broadstreet defeated Stratford in the outstanding quarter final tie and now play Old Laurentians on the same day at Old Leamingtonians. The Cup Final, should we get there, will be played on Sunday 22nd April with a 3pm kick off.

o Southam cried off our 20/20 semi final last Wednesday and we have now gone into the final which is to be played on March 7th at Stratford, opponents as yet unknown.

As at 19th Feb

After you think it cannot get any better than the win at Burton it did, with a truly superb win at home to 'numberless' Solihull, 38-10. Six tries were scored courtesy of James Hersey with 2, Sam Wood, Glen Eager, Andy Whitehall and Lee Cassell. This win edges us ever closer to a historic first league championship win and only three wins are needed from the remaining five games to ensure the title. Next week is another big test at Malvern.

The two's continued their good work with a 67-10 win away at Newbold (tries for Philpot, Sharples (2), Bell, Hill (3), Carrick, Johnson and Jenkins, seven converted by Glyn Owen and one apparently outragous drop goal.

The win sequence at senior level was competed by the threes with a 45-14 win against Coventrians with tries for Dave Finlay, Will O'Meara, Bryan Simon, Keith Wise and Nick Hillard who was also successful with five conversions.

The colts lost 15-3 at Hinckley.

! THE CUP GAME ON SUNDAY IS OFF !

As at 8th Feb

o Weather permitting, the ones are playing on Sunday in the semi final of the Warwickshire Cup against Newbold, kick off 2.15. There is no news of the team yet but we will be without Sam Wood and Ellliott Brown who we have kindly released to play for Warwickshire U20’s against Oxford University. I suggest you ring the club (853945) before setting off for Barkers. If ypou have not checkked out the Newbold web site yet - their forum then I suggest you do - somemthing about Posh Pri**s and Mike Umaga (note spelling).

o I believe that the two’s game is cancelled and the fact that most of the three’s were to play a 50th birthday game for Adrian Marsh against AEI Rigby but, as I write this email, they have cancelled!

o Please note that due to the concerns of the stability of the first XV posts no training or games are being allowed on the first XV pitch.

o On Sat there will also be a roaring fire in the club and the big TV screens will be showing the two Six Nations games on this Sat (Eng v Italy at 1.30 and Scotland v Wales at 3.30)

o On Sunday the same screens will be showing Ireland v France from Croke Park (so here is hoping the cup game is off!)

o Next week it is back to league action when we play Solihull at home. There are still some spaces available if you fancy a wee bit of lunch before this game.

o Thanks to our wonderful win at Burton last week and if you have already done your sums you will know that we need four wins (40points) from our last six games to secure the league championship and this assumes that the teams below us win all their games which they cannot as they play each other. I will endeavour to keep you posted on what we need as the last six games of the season unfold – watch this space and don’t book any holidays!

As at 5th Feb

Well, at Burton, the boys played some good rugby and won (20-0) and we are now four points in front with six games to go and are certainly in the driving seat. Coach Ian Fergusson described it as an awesome preformance and this was certainly agreed by the big travelling support that went to Burton - great to see and the guys really appreciate it. The day was somewhat clouded by the boys in blue defeat at Twickenham but you cannot have everything. Partick Thistle did win though to progress to the last eight of the Scottish cup! There were two tries for Elliott Brown and one each for Glen Eager and Pete Roberts.

The seconds game was cancelled on Sat morning and I do not yet have news of the thirds who played Lichfield (they got a doofing 50-12!). The colts returned to winning ways with a stonking 57-0 win away at Rugby St Andrews.

Next Sunday (11th Feb) we have agreed to play our semi final of the Warwickshire Cup, v Newbold at Barkers, kick off 2.15, despite being without Elliott Brown and Sam Wood who we have released after they had been selected for Warwickshire U20's on the same day.

As at 2nd Feb

o Tomorrow is ‘le crunche’ at Burton and, in all probability, a game that will decide if we are to gain automatic promotion to Midlands 1. Just go for it boys, play some good rugby and win! There is no definite news of a team yet as we have a few injury worries and concerns.

o The coach will leave the club at 11am and the kick off is 2.30. There are still a few spaces on the coach for supporters so if you fancy it then let Ian know ASAP. After the game the coach will stay to allow us to take in Scotland’s memorable win at Twickenham before embarking home via a wee pit stop arriving back around 8.30/9ish.

o Our cup winning seconds are at home to Old Leamingtonians (2.15) and the thirds are also at home v Lichfield (2.15). The colts are away at Rugby St Andrews.

o The second XV game will no doubt include a sight of the cup at one point but it will also be filmed and the guy doing the filming has asked if there are any budding Bill McLaren’s out there as he would dearly love to dub a commentary onto the film. Last night in the club the results of last weeks video was shown and quite impressive it was.

o Tonight is the Black Tie Dinner at the club with Tony Walsh.

o On the 16th Feb is the Valentine’s Quiz Night and you are also reminded of the Golf Competition that we hope to run during Feb.

o Next week we are down to play our semi final in the Warwickshire Cup with Newbold at Barkers – but watch this space as this may be cancelled due to player involvement in the Warwickshire U20’s (Sam Wood and Elliott Brown).

o Our next league game is the 17th Feb at home to Solihull.

As at 29th Jan

Superb news to report with Pride of Place going to our Second XV who defeated Broadstreet 24-17 to win the Warwickshre Second XV Cup. The one's had a hard fought win 25-17 against Bromsgrove but the Colts lost their unbeaten record at Hinckley.

The two's came from 10-3 behind with a sensational second half performance - not long after a Broadstreet pundit declared at half-time that "Kenilworth were always the bridesmaid!" - with converted tries from Mark Hill, Charlie Buckle and the evergreen Glyn Owen who had the audacity to kiss the ball before planting it on the ground for the decisive score. The post match celebrations went well and the boys were welcomed back at the club by a large crowd - not quite as big as attended the game but still a fair size.

Saturday's league game welcomed back Jamie Peacock and Tom Skinner, but in Bromsgrove's colours and tries from Luke Brown, Glen Eager, James Hersey and Mike Umaga saw us through. Even better news came from Newport where the home team defeated Burton to put us two points clear at the top.

Next week (3rd Feb) is the big one at Burton.

As at 26th Jan

o It is back to league action tomorrow with Bromsgrove (Jamie Peacock and all) coming to Glasshouse Lane. We need to win to keep our top spot and go to Burton next week in big heart and with confidence. Team tomorrow is: Collett, Varney, Erutei, Powell, Phillips, Jones, Burnside, Eager, Renowden, Umaga, E Brown, Roberts, Hersey, L Brown, Whitehall: likely subs are Smith, Cassell, Wood. It is a 2.15 kick off and prior to the game there is a sponsor’s lunch kicking off at 12 for 12.30 – still spaces available!

o Please note there is the possibility that due to ground conditions the game may be played at the Cow Patch – so be prepared!

o On Sunday the Second team play in the Final of their Warwickshire Cup against Broadstreet. Top Man Tony has not yet finalized his team but he is picking from a very strong squad and we must have every chance of a win – we are due a Cup Final win against Broadstreet so over to you boys! Kick is 2.15 and the game is being played at Newbold, to the west of Rugby. Please note the cub will be closed from 1.15 to 1hr after the game. Win, lose or draw there will be beers afterwards in the club, many I think if we win.

o The colts are away at Hinckley and the threes are at home to Sutton Coldfield, all 2.15 kick offs.

o A note on the Laws – last week the ref sent off one of our colts, but he was a sub (no we have not yet signed Trevor Brennan). The ref then instructed us to take off a player, which we did. The ref has now admitted he was wrong. He has been forgiven though as the 14 KRFC Colts beat 15 Leamington Colts (and against a strong wind) 22-7!

o Next week we are off to Burton and if you fancy going on the coach then let Ian Hadwin know. The plan is to watch Scotland whip England then return via at least one pit stop – if Scotland do win then Willie will be walking back me think!

o We now know our opponents in the semi final of the Warwickshire Cup – it is Newbold and it is to be played at Barkers Butts on Sunday 11th Feb, 2.15 kick off. The ref is Mark Rose.

o Next week there is a Black Tie Sporting Dinner at the club with speaker Tony Walsh – there are a few places left.

o During the month of Feb the club are hosting a Golf Tournament all done by big screens and wires – not to be missed and put your name up in the club.

o On 16th Feb there is a Valentine related Quiz Night at the club, commencing 8.30 with big cash prizes (related to the entry) to the winners.

o If you go onto the web site (www.kenilworthrugby.co.uk) and go into News, then ‘Read my guestbook” you will find suggestions for the best ever Kenilworth team of the last 20 years. It, for once, is mostly quite serious, and if you fancy submitting a team then please do.

o You are reminded to return your RFU raffle tickets to the club by 1st Feb – even if you do not sell any – this is important ‘cos the RFU will charge us for all books not returned to them.

o and finally – hold on Georgie – we need Reg for Saturday (and indeed next Saturday!) – a mid week delivery would be lovely.

Have a good weekend and here is to a Second team Cup win preceded by a league win and a few people off work on Monday.

As at 25th Jan (and a happy Burns Day!)

Two snippets of news for you:

  • some nice person or club has reported us to the Warwickshire RFU for playing an illegal player (Mike Umaga) in our cup game v Silhillians last week. I would like to advise that we have been cleared of all allegations and Mike was in fact eligible to play for Kenilworth in the Cup.
  • this now brings us on to the semi final where we have been paired with Newbold, to be played at Barkers Butts on Sunday 11th Feb. The other semi is between Stratford or Broadstreet and Old Laurentians.

As at 22nd Jan

WARWICKSHIRE CUP 1/4r FINAL

SILHILLIANS 13 KENILWORTH 20

A really hard game on an exposed pitch with a lot of credit going to Silhillians. Tries by Mike Umaga, Sam Wood and Rob Varney with a conversion and a penalty by Umaga.

KENILWORTH 2’s 67 STRATFORD 2’s 0

Kenilworth completed their warm up for the Second XV cup final with a 67-0 win at Stratford. Missing a few regulars they were still always on top with No8 Paul Whitehurst outstanding. There were four tries for Kiwi scrum half Mark Hill, two for Paul Whitehurst and winger Adam Trean and one for flanker Jai Purewal. Stand off Sam Lewis was successful with six conversions.

STRATFORD 3’s 5 KENILWORTH 3’s 38

Two tries each for Keith Wise and Glen Edney and one each for Tim Tufnel-Barratt, Nick Hillard and Adam Clifford. Four conversions for Nick Hillard (who recently played against Kenilworth for Newport in Midlands 2 west league game). Stratford’s try was scored by Kenilworth loan player Dave Chaplin.

LEAMINGTON COLTS 7 KENILWORTH COLTS 22

A truly superb win against all of the odds for K's colts playing with 14 men for most of the game when sub Sebastian was red carded and the ref ruled that a player had to be withdrawn (is this correct - comments appreciated!) then playing against the wind in the second half. The tries were soocred by Matt Cooper, Ross Lothian and Rhys Griffiths with the extras being added by Tom Palmer.

Next Saturday is league game v Bromsgrove, kick off 2.15. Before the game is a pre match lunch for the many KRFC Sponsors. On Sunday is the Warwickshire Second XV Cup final v Broadstreet at Newbold, kick off 2.15.

As at 19 Jan

o Tomorrow we play our quarter final Warwickshire Cup tie with Silhillians at Silhillians, kick off 2.15. Their ground is close to Copt Heath Golf Club in Knowle, next to jcn 5 of the M42. Currently the team is

Collett, Varney, Erueti, Powell, Phillips, Carrick, Jones, Eager, Renowden, Wood, Noon, Umaga, Hersey, E Brown, Whitehall: subs are C Brown, L Brown, Cassell and Roberts

o If you have not seen the superb article by Jamie Peacock on Mike Umaga then please do check it out in the KWN.

o The two’s are at home to Stratford and the threes are away.

o The Colts have a good looking fixture at Leamington where they are going for their sixth win in a row.

o There is still one table left for the Sporting Dinner (now Black Tie) on the 2nd Feb – speak to Peter Blakeman.

o Attention all Golfers or wannabee Golfers – details are posted in the club of the KRFC Interactive Golf Club Challenge which will take place during Feb with a big finals night towards the end of Feb. Speak to Ian Hadwin for more details.

o On the 16th Feb there will be a Valentines’ Quiz night at the club so bring your partner down for a wee bit of fun.

o Have a good weekend all.

Another good weekend for the club with all four sides winning, the twos and threes winning well.

The first XV won a difficult game at Camp Hill, 20-6, and the feeling was that we were glad to get this and the Barkers fixtures over and done with and the two wins keep us on top of the league. Try scorers were the Brown brothers and the superb Phil Jones.

KENILWORTH 2’s 73 CAMP HILL 2’s 5

Three tries for Jimmy Middleton, Two for Andy Fox and Paddy Flavelle, singles for Russell White, Mark Johnson, Tim Driffill and Jai Purewal. Eight conversions for Sam Lewis.

OLD LEAMINGTONIANS 3’s 10 KENILWORTH 3’s 51

Two tries for Lewis Jones (son of PAG Jones), two for Alistair Johnson, one each for Hugh Jones, Chey Dingley, Will O’Meara, Andrew Sneddon and Bryan Simon (voted man of match). Three conversions by Chey Dingley.

OADBY Colts 0 KENIWORTH COLTS/U18’s 10

The fifth win in a row for Kenilworth colts/u18’s.

Next game is Warwickshire Cup quarter final v Silhillians, away, on Sat 20th Jan – to be confirmed.

As at 12th Jan

A Happy New Year to you all and a good start we have had with us now topping the league and the two’s reaching the Second XV Cup Final

The game at Camp Hill tomorrow is still on and we have confirmed with them today – they are working hard on the pitch and only a lot more rain will put it off. Will be a wee bit muddy though – kick off is 2.15.

The two’s are at home to Camp Hill and the threes are away at Old Leamingtonians.

Our highly successful colts squad are away at Oadby Wigstonians.

Tana Umaga trying on the Kenilworth jersey - Xmas 2006The big breaking news for the week is the signing of Mike Umaga, brother of Tana, and the former Coventry Player/Coach – he is set to make his debut tomorrow. Mike will be a Player/Coach for us and apparently last night’s training session with him and the backs and Darren Garforth with the forwards was a cracker. We tried to get his brother Tana as well and he even visited Kenilworth over Christmas for discussions but we could not pull off the deal – he did try the shirt on though and liked it!

Next week we take on Silhillians in the second round of Warwickshire Cup – this may be played on the Saturday so check it out

The Second team cup final is at Newbold on Sunday 28th Jan and is against Broadstreet, 2.15 kick off. Win, lose or draw there will be a big party back at the club, hopefully a celebration one!

On the 2nd Feb there is a Black Tie Sporting Dinner at the club (Tony ‘Banger’ Walsh) – if you want to go you better be quick as tickets are going fast – contact Peter Blakeman

On the 3rd Feb is our crunch match at Burton – if you fancy going on a supporters coach, or two, then contact Ian at the club and if there is enough interest then we will get one.

Our next home league game is against Bromsgrove on 27th Jan and this is our annual Sponsors Lunch – if you are a Sponsor and you have not had your invite then contact Peter B

As at 8th Jan

A Happy New year to all of our readers and a very, if not very very, good weekend for KRFC with the ones going top of the league and the seconds reaching the final of the Second XV cup with a well dug out win over Barkers.

Yours truly was on a flight back from Portugal and I was quite glad that I did not go through the suffering that the big KRFC support incurred at Barkers - we won 8-6 courtesy of a Glen Eager try and a late Lee Cassell penalty from the touchline. The pitch was very muddy and for large parts of the game Barkers dominated and were leading 6-5 but we came through with the penalty and this is the sign of a good team. Even better news eminated from Newbold where they defeated Burton 10-8, a result which put us top of the league on points difference.

On the Sunday any thoughts of an easy cup win were quickly dispelled in the opening five minutes when Barkers forward power ended in two converted tries. Our boys rolled up their sleeves and came back gradually and ended up winning 21-17 in a good game of rugby despite the muddy conditions. We now play Broadstreet in the final at Newbold on Sunday 28th Jan.

The threes played at Barkers and lost 15-0 - say no more.

The colts travelled to Wolverhampton and had a superb 28-0 win.

Next up is Camp Hill away on Sat but do check if the game is on as it is a pitch that is prone to flooding and much rain is anticiapted this week.

As at 28th Dec

No senior games last weekend as Old Coventrians sadly pulled out of our Warwickshire Cup tie on the Saturday however our Colts travelled to Burton and had a tremednous win, 14-5, and hopefully a good marker for our senior game there in Feb.

A big crowd turned up on Boxing Day for the third XV fixture v the Colts of 1998. In good Boxing Day tradition the game ended in a 17-17 draw. It was good to see a full bar for most of the day and this was reflected in the big takings.

This coming weekend is also void of senior games and our next fixtures are on the 6th and 7th Jan when the ones are away at Barkers Butts in the league and the seconds are at home to Barkers on the 7th in the Warwickshire Cup semi final, both 2.15 kick offs. This weekend will stretch our resources a wee bit with a few of the guys out in Australia watching the cricket. Perhaps they may come home!

The next big Social event at the club is on Friday 2nd Feb when there is a Sporting Dinner - details from Peter Blakeman.

As at 18th Dec

Another cracking weekend for the club with both the ones and twos winning against Newport. At first team level Newport made us work very hard and they are by far the best team to visit Kenilworth this season. Here is hoping they do us a few favours in the run in.

The ones result was 15-3 with tries for Gareth Renowden and James Burnside and one pen and a con by Pete Roberts.

The twos won 17-0 with tries for Jai Purewal and Charlie Buckle and two conversions and one pen by Mark Hill.

The colts won at Daventry 23-10.

Next Sat we think we are playing Old Coventrians in the cup - watch this space for confirmation. At home there is a Pag's Lalg's fixture with, hopefully, a few guests.

As at 11th Dec

A weekend off for the ones.

BROMSGROVE 2’s 5 KENILWORTH 2’s 37

Another superb win for the KRFC second string away at Bromsgrove.

There were tries for Jez Noon, Charlie Buckle, Adam Trean, Charlie Brown and a Penalty Try and three conversion sand two pens for stand off Sam Lewis.

In the semi final of the Warwickshire Second XV cup Kenilworth have been drawn at home to Barkers Butts. To be played on 7th Jan, 2.15 kick off.

KENILWORTH 3’s 27 BROMSGROVE 3’s 15

A father and son double act with Rod Jones and son Hugh Jones scoring two tries each and another by Keith Wise. Glyn Owen one conversion.

Next Saturday (16th Dec) the ones are at home to Newport in the league. The following Saturday (23rd) will be the Warwickshire cup tie away at Old Coventrians.

The colts had a superb 22-5 win away at Harbury with two tries for 'man of the match' Matt Cooper and second row McNulty, a drop goal and conversion by Palmer and another drop goal by Winter.

As at 4th Dec

The trips to Rugby this weekend by both ones and twos resulted in big wins for the first XV (38-5) in the league at Newbold and for theSecond XV, 43-20 in the Warwickshire Second XV cup.

Both players and spectators alike were greeted at Newbold with some totally amazing comments in the programme and it is best if they are not dwelt upon here - truly unbelivable and all it did was to wind our guys up even more than they were for them to run in six tries (Roberts 2, Hersey, Renowden, Brown and Wood) with only one try in response from Newbold. With Burton winning this still leaves us in second place, now on our own, two points adrift.

The seconds then travelled to Old Lauurentians on the Sunday in what looked like, on paper at least, a difficult tie but which turned up to be a bit of a canter in a 43-20 win. Try scorers were Mark Hill with two and singles for Charlie Brown, Simon Jeavons, Alistar Johnston, Drew Dingley and Jimmy Middleton. Sam Lewis was successful with four conversions. Other winners in the quarter finals were Broadstreet, Barkers Butts and Newbold. The semi final is to be played on 7th Jan and please watch this space for the draw.

PAG's LAGS also made their seasonal debut yesterday against a KRFC 3rd XV and this ended in a 29-17 win for the Kenilworth side with tries for Mark Bennett (2), Glyn Owen, Gary Stephens and Chris Sibley. The LAG's scorers were Ben Shaw, Hugh Jones and Mike Umaga. I have also been told to report that a certain PAG Jones was awesome although his son Lewis did say he looked a wee bit tired after five minutes.

The colts side travelled to Bromsgrove and lost 17-20 in a close game, losing with virtually the last play of the game. Try scxorers were Ross Lothian, Ollie Burnham and Rhys Griffiths.

As at 1st Dec

o It is a big weekend we are going into with both ones and twos in action in Rugby – the ones at Newbold in another massive ‘must win’ league game and the two’s away at Old Laurentians in a difficult looking Second XV cup quarter final – both kick off at 2.15

o The ones put out the same team as last week with the exception of Rhidian Booth for the unavailable Ed Hunter in the front row. Nick Smith comes back to the bench alongside Jez Noon and Lee Cassell.

o The current twos team is: Collett, Johnson, Erueti, Dingley, Bell, Brown, Driffell, Jeavons, Hill, Lewis, Fox, Purewal, White, Middleton, Cassell (if available)

o Your support at both these ‘big’ games would be welcome. Please also note that the club will be open on Sunday after the two’s game, hopefully for a celebration drink and to contemplate a cup win

o On Sat Newbold have kindly agreed to switch the third XV fixture to Kenilworth and this will kick off around 2.15 probably at the Cow Patch due to the state of the first XV pitch

o Another big game on Sunday is the season debut of Pag’s Lags against a Tim Hunt XV – this is to be played at the Cow Patch kicking off around 12.30ish.

o There is no league or cup fixture next weekend but watch this space for notice of any games that are arranged for the ones. The two’s are down to play Bromsgrove away.

o The following week is yet another massive league game at home to Newport, 2.15 kick off – this is preceded by the Xmas Lunch in the Marquee starting around noon- see Peter B if you fancy this

o On the night of the 16th is the Xmas Fancy Dress party and everyone is invited to participate, including the Colts, all playing levels and supporters. There will be live music at the club and a sing song like last year and it promises to be a good night The theme is ‘Top of the Pops’.

As at 28th Nov

Another thumping win for the boys on Sat with a 75-5 win in difficult conditions over a Bridgnorth who looked far better than most of the teams we have played and should not stay too long towards the basement area of the league. In a 12 try extravaganza there were three for James Hersey, two for Andy Whitehall and singles for Pete Roberts, Sam Wood, Ed Hunter, Luke Brown, Rob Varney, Gareth Renowden and James Burnside. This brings our try total in the league to a very creditable 79 in ten games and we now have the top five scorers in the league through Andy Whitehall (12), Elliott Brown, Gareth Renowden, James Hersey and Luke Brown (10 each) and a points for of 527. The watching spies from Newbold no doubt went "homeward tae think again" although we all know that Newbold will be a very dificult proposition on Saturday and we very rarely win there! A big support is called for to give the boys every chance we can against a team whom we were joint second with prior to their game being called off last week at Camp Hill.

Bridgnorth called off the second team fixture on Friday and we were lucky to pick up a game away at Stratford. Whether Stratford say that now is open to debate as we ran in ten tries for a 60-0 win before the ref called time with twenty minutes left. Kenilworth scorers were Jimmy Middleton with 2, Andy Fox with 2, Russell White with 2, Tom Harrison with 2, and singles for new Kiwi prop Peter Erueti and Mark Johnson. Sam Lewis had five conversions.

Next weekend it is back to Rugby on the Sunday when the two's take on Old Laurentians 2's in theWarwickshire Second XV Cup on the Sunday, 2.15 kick off. This will not be easy for the boys and they could have picked up an easier draw.

If you do not fancy the trip to Rugby then feast yourself on the season's debut of Pags Lags on Sunday at the Cow Patch, around 12.30 kick off.

As at 20th Nov

The first XV had no game on Saturday and the two's, three's and colts took on Leamington.

The seconds started with more or less the team that played in the Second XV cup last week and later, when the game was well won, augmented with a few first team guys who just wanted a run out. The result was a 62-12 win for our boys. Two tries for Paddy Flavelle and Elliott Brown and singles for Pete Roberts, Rhidian Booth, Andy Fox, Sam Wood, Matt Jenkins and Mark Hill. Five conversions for Sam Lewis and one for Paddy Flavelle.

The threes also won, away, 79-19 with five tries for Alastair Johnston, two for Mark Nicholas and one each for prop John Vincent (converted by himself!), Tom Harrison, Mark Thomas and Keith Wise. Seven other convesions by Mark Nicholas.

Next week it is back to league action with a game at home against Bridgnorth - 2.15 kick off.

Last Thursday also saw the arrival of the prop from Down Under. Peter Erueti has arrived and made his debut on Sat - soon after the Leamington prop retired and the game went to passive scrums. I do not think these instances were related!

The colts/U18's fought out a good old battle with Leamington and just lost out 5-7.

14th Nov

Please note that there will be no formal training tonight (14th) but a few of the guys will be down for a run out.

On Thursday (16th) Darren Garforth will be taking another training session at the club.

As at 13th Nov

A cracking weekend for KRFC with the ones winning their big game at Newport, the two's progressing in the Second XV cup and the threes winning away at Coventrians 2's.

The Newport game was a bit of a tense affair and our boys should great guts and character to continually come from behind to eventually win 37-28. Coach Fergie had the ideal team talk when the Newport coach advised him before the game that they had the best scrummaging unit in the league. Needless to say this was passed on to our boys who totally destroyed Newport in that facet of the game and took great delight in scoring a pushover try in the first seven minutes of the game. It was also a wee bit wierd seeing our (occasional) third team fly half, Nick Hillard, playing No10 for Newport. We have been trying to sign Nick ever since he moved to the area but he has remained loyal to his home club and this is nice to see. Luke Brown scored three tries with Andy Whitehall, James Hersey and Glen Eager getting the others. The Hersey try was a real funny one aided by the wind but is was the big one that knocked the stuffing out of a plucky Newport. Other news from the league was that Burton won at Stafford, Bromsgrove (James Peacock and all) just failed to beat Newbold and Solihull beat Lichfield. This leave us second with Newbold who we play in three weeks time. If you have not already, check out the league and National Stats on www.rugbyroundup.com - particularly the Heroes League - quite impressive from our boys.

Our second XV did us proud in the second round of the Warwickshire Cup with a 54-0 win over Earlsdon with two tries for Charlie Brown, Rhidian Booth and the impressive Adam Trean and singles for Mark Johnson, Elliott Brown, Mark Hill and Andy Fox.

The threes also won 17-15 at Coventrians 2's with two tries from Alastair Johnston.

No news yet on next Sat's games, if any for the first XV, but the U18's are playing Leamington at home on Sat pm - kick off and venue to be decided.

As at 6th Nov

The good news is that the boys returned to winning ways on Sat with a 65-15 win over Barkers Butts with Andy Whitehall scoring three and Gareth Renowden and Jez Noon two apiece. Other scorers were Rob 'yes another one boys' Varney and Nick 'I can't stop scoring' Collett, Luke Brown and James Burnside - a total of eleven. Even beter news filtered through from Burton where the league leaders got beat by Newbold and are now only two points ahead of the pack that includes Newport, our opponents this weekend, ourselves and Newbold. This may be the start of the 'dog eat dog' part of the season and hence we must ensure we carry on winning to take advantage of our high scoring exploits.

Not so good news from the away second XV game at Barkers which was abandoned after 60 minutes with us 62-0 ahead. The reports coming back are that a Barkers sub came on and the next thing was that Mick O'Brien took a punch to the eye that was 'serious'. The police were called and an arrest was made - not good at all. More news of Mick when I get it but no doubt you will read about it in the local press.

The threes took on a fixture at newly formed Wellesbourne and lost 24-40. Chris Sibley and Gary Stephens scored two tries each with Chris getting two conversions. Turning point of the match was at 5 – 0 to Wellesbourne, Chris Sibley made a stunning break and scored a “try”. Unfortunately it was scored on the Wellesbourne 5 metre line and as the whole K’s team turned to retreat to halfway line (all believing we’d scored) their 20 year old fullback picked the ball up ran the length of the field and scored under the posts! Embarrassing!

This weekend is a big away fixture at Newportand we are taking the U18's on a coach. Win, lose oor draw should be a good return journey.

As at 3rd Nov

Tomorrow it is back to league action with a home game against Barkers Butts, 2.15 kick off. The team for the moment is: 1. Nick Collett 2. Reg Varney 3. Ed Hunter 4. Ian Phillips 5. Mark Powell 6. Nicky Smith 7. James Burnside 8. Glen Eager 9. Gareth Renowden 10. Sam Wood 11. Luke Brown 12. Peter Roberts 13. James Hersey 14. Jeremy Noon 15. Andy Whitehall Subs: 16. Philip Jones 17. Lee Cassell 18. Rhidian Booth

The game is preceded by a Former Players Lunch, commencing at 12.30 for the 2.15 kick off

The two’s are away at Barkers and due to the cry off of Barkers 3’s our threes are away at Old Leamingtonians. The U18’s opponents on Sunday have cried off and they have now picked up a fixture away at Bromsgrove.

You are reminded that on Sunday (5th) England play New Zealand and this is on at the club on the big screen.

All players are reminded that we are trying to do player profiles on the web site and to date there has been a poor response so please get these forms in ASAP.

As at 30th Oct

Well we went north up the M6 and, to put it blunty, got a wee bit of a lesson from a very good team who put us to the sword and with twennty minutes left and 57-7 down we were staring done the barrel at a very big defeat. However our guys dug in and with the help of a sin bin to Altrincham we played the last 20 minutes almost entirely in their half but to no avail and the score ended 7-57 and a drubbing! There does appear to be a wee bit of a gulf between North and Midlands rugby and Saturday's result only emphasised this. Our try scorer was Lee Cassell who also converted it. An injury to the very good James Burnside saw Jake Povey make his debut in the second half. Despute the result it was agood away trip and Reg and Dicky did a sterling job on the coach back handing out the beer and Nick Smith found us a nice wee quiet pub in Stafford to help drown our sorrows. The committee men at Altrincham were very hospitable and we thank them for their courtesy and wish you well in the next round. The night got better though when news filtered through of a Partick Thistle win to see the mighty Jags go to the top of League1.

Back at the ranch a combined 2's and 3's took on Birmingham Medics and won 63-7. Try scorers were Russell White 2 of, Tony Philpot 2 of, Keith Wise 2 of, Glynn Own, Paddy Flavelle, Mark Bennett, Tim Tuffnell-Barret and Sebastian from U 18 - not sure of his surname. Conversions: Glynn 3 of and Paddy one.

Next Saturday it is back to league action with a game at home v Barkers Butts with a 2.15 kick off. This is preceded by a Former Players Lunch.

The Ground Appeal Raffle was drawn on Friday night and it was won by Kim Holmes, Bernnard Thorogood took second prize and Terry Critchlow took the third prize.

As at 27th October

o Tomorrow is our rest from the rigours of league rugby and we have a wee jaunt up the M6 to Altrincham Kersal for our first round EDF Energy cup tie, our reward for reaching the Warwickshire Cup final last year. Altrincham are currently in the bottom half North 1 so there is no reason why we should not look at progressing to the next round when the ‘big teams’ will enter and who says who we might get in the next round if we win! Directions to the ground are on the Altrincham web site (www.akrfc.co.uk) and are in our club. Allow at least 2hrs but it will depend on the M6 – the toll road is recommended.

o Prop Ed Hunter will be missing with his eye injury he got last week but we welcome back Rhidian Booth. Nick Smith comes in at No 6 with Phil Jones dropping to the bench. In the backs Mark Hill replaces Sam Wood who, with Elliott Brown, drops to the bench, Andy Whitehall moves to the wing and Lee Cassell is restored to full back. We have seven subs the others being Eric Marcelo, Andy Fox Jez Noon and Mick O’Brien.

o The coach is leaving at 10.30 prompt for the 3pm kick off.

o The number of subs required by the ones has decimated the two’s and it is planned to play a 2/3 game with Stratford at home as well as a true ‘Pirates’ game somewhere.

o Next week it is back to league action and we play Barkers Butts at home. This is a Former Players Lunch day so if you fancy this then please contact Peter Boyle.

o The two’s superb win last week in the Warwickshire Cup now sees them with another home draw against Earlsdon who defeated Silhillians – to be played on Sunday Nov 12th – here is hoping it is a wee bit drier than last week!

o The Autumn International tickets have now either been posted or left behind the bar for you – people are asking for tickets so if you cannot use them let me know.

o The New Zealand game is next Sunday (5th) so that will be a nice wee afternoon at the club for us all. All games will be shown at the club.

o On the 11 the Nov we are away at Newport and there is a coach going, including our U18’s – if you wish to go on this as a supporter then contact Ian the Steward.

o On Friday 15th Dec the club, through the minis and juniors section, are hosting a “Winter Wonderland” Christmas Ball. This is being held at the club where a marquee is to be erected. It is a black tie event at £30 per head and forms are at the club – if you cannot get there then contact Dave Blackburn who is the main organiser.

o The following day (16th) is the Christmas Lunch and at night is the Fancy Dress then it is of to hospital for a new liver!

As at 23rd October

A good weekend for KRFC with the ones posting a big score (87-0) against Camp Hill and the two's progressing to the second round of the Warwickshire Cup with a 66-0 win against Keresley.

In the one sided league game we had eleven different scorers of the fourteen tries with Andy Whitehall and Luke and Elliott Brown scoring two each. Burton won again however and we remain four points adrift of them.

There was abit of a fiasco at the start of the Second XV cup game when no ref appeared - he apparently cried off on Friday but no one told us and done anything about it! Brains were pooled and a referee who was associated with the Medics came out of the blue and the game went on some 45minutes late. A vintage KRFC display followed in really wet conditions and a 66-0 win resulted. Next game is 12th Nov at home.

Third team captain/manager/player Tim Hunt was planning a double game of rugby to celebrate his 50th but Camp Hill did not appear on Sat so it was down to one game on the Sunday against a Trinity Guild XV put together by Thumper Dingley - the boys duly gave Tim a god pressie and a 38-7 win. Needless to say Tim awarded himself the man of the match award!

Next weekend we are off to Altrincham Kersal for the first round of the EDF cup, 3pm kick off - your support would be very much appreciated.

As at 16th Oct

The one's returned to winning ways on Sat at Bromsgrove with a 32-6 win but with Burton narrowly winning at home to Newport we are still four points adrift of them and looking for someone to do us a big favour to bring it all back into our own destiny. There were tries for the very impressive Rob Varney, taking out Mr Peacock to boot, Gareth Renowden and Phil Jones and Lee Cassell crucified Browmsgrove with a series of penalties but only one conversion.

The game saw the debut of 18yr old ex Warwick School fly half Sam Wood who came on as a second half substitute.

Kenilworth are also delighted to announce the signings of fly half Daniel Yeow from Chinnor, Sam Lewis from Towcestrians and 18yr old ex Warwick School back row forward Jake Povey.

KENILWORTH 2’s 38 SUTTON COLDFIELD 2’s 5

Another good win for the K’s second string with tries by Charlie brown, Glyn Owen, Andy Fox, Alastair Johnston, Mark Johnson and Tim Driffil. Four conversions by Andy Fox. Man of the match was the outstanding 18yr old back row forward Jake Povey.

Third XV – no game.

Next week at home V Camp Hill in league, 3pm kick off

Following week (28th) is the EDF Energy first round tie v Altrincham, away.

On Sunday 22nd Oct, there is the first round of the Warwickshire Second XV cup, v Keresley at home, 2.15 kick off.

As at 13th October

Apologies for the lack of news - it is not because we have been getting beat but because of illness and holidays, honest!

o Tomorrow the first XV need to get the show back on the rails quickly and win at Bromsgrove following two late defeats by Solihull and Burton. There is no team news yet but look out for ex Warwick School Sam Woods making his debut. Kick off is at 3pm. In the Bromsgrove ranks are likely to be Jamie Peacock and Tom Skinner and the guys are looking forward to renewing acquaintances with them both.

o The two’s are down to play Sutton Coldfield at home with the threes away at Sutton.

o Next weekend (21st) the ones are at home to Camp Hill and on the Sunday (22nd) the two’s play their Warwickshire cup game v Keresley at home, 2.15 kick off

o The week after (28th) is the visit to Altrincham in the EDF Energy cup.

o On Wed night the 20/20 squad had their second win of the season defeating Southam 14-7 with tries from Luke Brown and Chris Sibley and two Sam Woods conversions.

o You are reminded that the dead-line for Six Nations International Tickets is next Friday, 20th October and details have already been sent.

As at 2nd October

A brave performance from Kenilworth against a ‘heavily reinforced’ Solihull to come back from a 28-10 deficit to lead 34-28 only to lose the game in they dying minutes to a converted try. K’s try scorers were Elliot Brown, Lee Cassell, Gareth Renowden, Andy Whitehall and Pete Roberts. Three cons and one pen for Lee Cassell.

This was a bit of a reality check for Kenilworth following recent big wins.

KENILWORTH 2’s 17 RUGBY LIONS 2’s 46

Debut tries for ex Warwick School Jake Povey and new kiwi fly half Mark Hill. Two conversions by Sam Lewis and one pen by Andy Fox. Man of the match went to prop Chris Collett who, to quote Rugby Lions, ”took their front row apart single handed“.

AEI RUGBY 19 KENILWORTH 3’s 7

A try for Tom Bell, converted by Dave Finlay.

Next Sat we are at home to top of the table Burton, 3pm kick off.

Applications for Intenational Tickets for the Six Nations are now being accepted to be with Willie W by 20th October.

As at 25th Sept

A truly awesome performance by Kenilworth that left the majority of the crowd ‘stunned’. Eleven tries were scored and full back Lee Cassell had a perfect 11 out of 11 conversions with two penalties to boot – a club record. There was a three try debut for Luke Brown (brother of Elliott) signed this week from Penrith and two each for Gareth Renowden, James Hersey and Andy Whitehall with singles from Phil Jones and Pete Roberts.

KENILWORTH second XV travelled all the way to a Malvern only to be told they were not wanted as Malvern had a game fixed up against Luctonians. This was despite the confirming of the fixture on the Thursday evening by both Fixture Secretaries.

KENILWORTH 3’s 22 SHOTTERY 34

A valiant attempt by K’s 3’s against a strong Shottery XV ended in defeat with tries from Bruce Nicholl, Ian Parsons, Mark Nicholas and Will O’meara, who also had one conversion.

Next Sat ones are away at Solihull.

As at 18th Sept

We chalked up our second league win with a 32-9 win at Lichfield with 18yr old winger Elliott Brown running in four tries and a single for James Hersey.

It was a truly awesome performance by Kenilworth described by coach Ian Fergusson as the best he has ever seen in his time at Kenilworth – truly superb in defence and magnificent in attack. 18 yr old winger Elliott Brown also showed his defensive capabilities, along with the many others, with some big crunching tackles. The game saw the first XV debuts of Ian Phillips and Peruvian Internationalist Eric Marcelo, a student at Warwick University.

KENILWORTH 2’s 15 LICHFIELD 2’s 13

Kenilworth won a close encounter at Glasshouse Lane thanks to tries by Andy Fox, debutant James Smart and Rhod Handslip.

LICHFIELD 3’s 10 KENIILWORTH 3’s 3

A brave effort by Kenilworth third XV away at Lichfield and just failing to snatch a draw in the dying minutes of the game. K’s scorer was stand off Nick Hillard.

Next week at home to unbeaten Malvern, 3pm kick off.

As at 11th Sept

A good start to the season with a 69-0 trouncing of Stafford at home with eleven tries and two each for new boys Elliott Brown and Gareth Renowden and the returning James Hersey and singles for Lee Cassels, Andy Whitehall, Charlie Buckle, James Peacock and new signing Phil Jones. Lee was successful with seven of the conversions.

The bad news was a bad injury to Glen Eager who had to be taken to hospital after falling awkwardly - it has been diagnosed as ligament damage and he will be out for around 8 weeks.

The two other sides won as well:

COVENTRIANS 1’s 5 KENILWORTH 2’s 24

Tries for Jimmy Middleton, Chris Dulay and Tim Driffell and Three cons and one pen from Andy Fox.

KENILWORTH 3’s 32 COVENTRIANS 2’s 21

Tries for Will O’Meara, Nick Hillard, Keith Wise and Ian Parsons. Two tries for Steve Nicholl and one conversion by Nick Hillard.

Next week we are away at Lichfield.

As at 18 August

Tomorrow (19th) the pre season games start and we are at Stratford for a Tournament involving Stratford, Stow on the Wold, South Leicester and ourselves.

We will play 3No 20minute each way games and it is planned to kick off around 1ish.

Included in our squad for tomorrow are some of our new signings:

Scrum half/winger Gareth Renowden, winger Elliott Brown, flanker Phil Jones, prop Chris Collett and then there is the returning James Hersey to feast your eyes upon.

Next week we have also organised a game v Banbury on Friday night, kick off 7pm.

As at 15 August

GREETINGS FROM NEW ZEALAND

Its 'k' here just dropping you fellaz a line wishing you good luck for this years rugby season coming. Just thought I'd leave you with something that helped us win the grand final here in front of 5,000 people. It may be useful when the K's make the finals again. It goes like this:

"finals rugby is a big occasion, for 80 mins you put your body on the line in exchange for pain for the team, in time your body will heal. You now know what it feels like to be second best cause when that final whistle goes all you have is memories. It is time for war march forward as a man and make a stand."

The first training game of the season is on Sat 19th Aug at Stratford when we play in a tournament that will comprise a series of short games. Next Friday night we are at home to Banbury with a BBQ to follow.

The backs and back row are looking really smoky this term and the forwards are now beginning to come out of their summer hibernation. A few new faces have appeared at training and things are looking well for the forthcoming season that kicks off on 9th Sept at home to Stafford.

We now know our National Cup opponents and it is a jolly boys day out at Altrincham (south of Manchester) who play in North 1. Game is on Oct 28th and not as we thought on the 2nd Sept.

As at 19th July

Kenilworth RFC are delighted to announce the signing of Gareth Renowden from Leamington.

Last season Gareth had a highly successful season with Leamington culminating in being capped for Warwickshire.

He will be a most welcome addition to the Kenilworth ranks following the departure of Kiwi scrum half/fly half Tak Norton back to New Zealand.

Most of last season’s highly successful squad, Tak excepting, have been retained for this season and a number of new prospective first XV players have attended training which has now commenced in earnest for the new season under the direction of Pete Roberts and Ian Fergusson.

The pre season training games have also been established and these are:

• Saturday 19th August - Away at Stratford RFC Pre Season Tournament (4 team round robin)
