GREETINGS FROM NEW ZEALAND

Kia ora Kenilworth Rugby Club.

Its 'k' here just dropping you fellaz a line wishing you good luck for this years rugby season coming. Just thought I'd leave you with something that helped us win the grand final here in front of 5,000 people. It may be useful when the K's make the finals again. It goes like this:

"finals rugby is a big occasion, for 80 mins you put your body on the line in exchange for pain for the team, in time your body will heal. You now know what it feels like to be second best cause when that final whistle goes all you have is memories. It is time for war march forward as a man and make a stand."

Kia kaha kia toa!

The first training game of the season is on Sat 19th Aug at Stratford when we play in a tournament that will comprise a series of short games. Next Friday night we are at home to Banbury with a BBQ to follow.

The backs and back row are looking realy smokey this term and the forwards are now beginning to come out of their summer hibernation. A few new faces have appeared at training and things are looking well for the forthcoming season that kicks off on 9th Sept at home to Stafford.

We now know our National Cup opponents and it is a jolly boys day out at Altrincham (south of Manchester) who play in North 1. Game is on Oct 28th and not as we thought on the 2nd Sept.

As at 19th July

Kenilworth RFC are delighted to announce the signing of Gareth Renowden from Leamington.

Last season Gareth had a highly successful season with Leamington culminating in being capped for Warwickshire.

He will be a most welcome addition to the Kenilworth ranks following the departure of Kiwi scrum half/fly half Tak Norton back to New Zealand.

Most of last season’s highly successful squad, Tak excepting, have been retained for this season and a number of new prospective first XV players have attended training which has now commenced in earnest for the new season under the direction of Pete Roberts and Ian Fergusson.

The pre season training games have also been established and these are:

• Saturday 19th August - Away at Stratford RFC Pre Season Tournament (4 team round robin)

• Friday 25th August - Home v Banbury RFC kick off 7.15pm followed by Pre Season BBQ.

On Saturday 2nd September the club return to the Powergen National Cup for the first time in eight years following their Warwickshire Cup final appearance. There is no news of the opposition yet. On Sat 9th Sept the league campaign begins with a home game v Stafford.

As at 8 June

o Good news to start with Player Coach Pete Roberts has committed himself to the club for another year and it is hoped that most of last years very successful but unlucky squad will be around next season for another assault on the league and cups. We also hope to have James Hersey back from his travels. If you know or hear of any player who would be interested in joining us at any level then get him to send an email to krfc@appliedgeology.co.uk or send his contact details to krfc and I will take it from there.

o Next season’s league format is currently in chaos but there is a provisional league fixture list which Dean is working around to add our other fixtures into. Out of the league have gone Broadstreet, Leamington and Old Laurentians – some doubt remains over Hinckley’s and Stoke’s presence as they may be moved out of the league into other similar divisions and Burton may well come into it. Definite new boys in the league though are Bromsgrove, Solihull, Lichfield and Bridgnorth and at this early stage Solihull look the big threat.

o The league season starts on 9th Sept and it is likely that we will have a Powergen Cup fixture preliminary round on the 2nd Sept, if not the week before that, so players, do not book any holidays!

o Peter Roberts is organizing a run around on Wed 14th June so if you fancy that be at the Cow Patch at around 6.30, then beers in the club afterwards.

o Please also remember Tak’s leaving BBQ on Sunday 18th June. He has organised a fun 10 a-side touch game at around 2pm followed by his barby. In good Kiwi style Tak has asked that it be a “bring your own food barby” so be warned! Should be a good send off for Tak – he deserves it!

o The football World Cup starts on Friday and the club will be open for all Scotland, sorry, England’s fixtures starting with Paraguay on Saturday. If you fancy another game then ring Ian at the club (853945) and ask him if he is open. A list will be circulated soon.

o The far away Internationals are now upon us so please ring Ian and he will tell you if the club will be open or not for certain games. If Scotland, after their magnificent win over England last week, are set to win the Churchill Cup then I can assure you that the club will be open. Even if the games are not on live Ian will tape them and show them sometime.

o The AGM is at the club on Wed 21st June at 8pm. Please attend and have your say in the running of the club.

o I also advise you of our successful application to the RFU for a grant to help us improve the ground. Please consider this request for a donation – it is to help our pitches and we will only get the money from the RFU if we raise and spend money ourselves.

o Finally TICKET APPLICATIONS for the Autumn Internationals are now requested and should be with me by the 30th June. Sorry for the short notice of this but they have just come from the RFU. Why it is so early this year I have no idea.

As at 8th May

Well it was not to be and we lost the play off with Peterborough in injury time, going down 21-23 so we remain a Midlands 2 club and it is tough on us that we chose this season to come good only to come up gainst Broadstreet who ended up as Champions. Despite ending up with nothing we have had a superb season and this is down to the hard work of the players and coaching staff - well done lads, you did us proud and there is no reason why we cannot repeat the same next year. Recruitment has already started. It is also thanks to the many supporters who travelled to Peterborough.

One good point was that Andy Whitehall finished as the league's top try scorer and it is well done to him. Tak was just behind him and the player of the year is going to be a difficult choice - there are many candidates and you will find out at the Club Dinner on Friday night (12th May) - it is to be held at Coventry RFC and if you fancy going then contact Peter Lindsay through the club.

Another piece of good news is that we won the Harold Stilwell Cup on Saturday with a superb overall performance.

A date for your diary is the Pirates Dinner on Friday 16th June and if you fancy this then contact Bruce Doe.

Please also remember that we now have a true KRFC Darts Team and we play on a Monday night - contact Willie W if you fancy this.

As at 26th April

There will be a supporters coach leaving the club at 12.00pm on Saturday April 29th.
Seats are £10 each, and by happy coincidence Peterborough RFC have a barbeque and beer festival (40 beers!) laid on for the weekend too!!! The beer is available pre (during!) and post match.

Saturday sees the culmination of a season's hard work - the promotion play-off versus Peterborough. 2 full coaches plus many cars of supporters are heading over the Peterborough's ground - directions on their website www.prufc.com . The supporters coach leaves the club at 12.00.

The squad have trained well this week and are all looking forward to the match. The team should be at full strength with the return of Tak Norton, Andy Whitehall, Mark Powell, Paul Whitehurst, Rhidian Booth and Alex Taylor. The 1XV pack were seen shoving the scrum machine uphill on Tuesday evening and the backline running through their moves at pace. They are looking forward to the support of all club members and hopefully their place back in Midlands 1 in September.

As at 10th April

All hope of a league championship and automatic promotion was lost on Sat when a much changed team mssing a few regulars lost 18-15 to a fired up Newbold. Playing into the elements in the first half we turned around 10-5 ahead and soon extended that to 15-5 early in the second half. From theronin it went pear shaped and we shipped two tries (one from a rather dubious quick throw in) and then gifted a pently score to newbold in front of the posts in the last seconds of the ten minutes of injury time played. It was a dejected squad that left the pitch knowing they had handed the league to our old foes Broadstreet.

The situation with the play off (29th April) is that it will almost certainly be Peterborough and unless we beat Broadstreet and they lose to Derby it will be at their place.

They have 37 points, we have 36. They have a far better points difference.

Peterborough’s last game is at home to Derby who are third with 34 points.

South Leicester play the away at bottom club Ampthill and need at least a draw to win the league.

If they lose and Peterborough win then Peterborough will be champions and the play off will be at South Leicester as they will have more points than us.

Clear as mud, but losing that last minute point (and the game) on Sat was critical.

Our two's and threes had a day off but our Pirates went on tour to Exmouth - no results as yet.

As at 4th April

What is it about Kenilworth and cup finals. Of all the ones that I can remember we have gone into the game with a reasonably settled team but on the day of the game it all goes pear shaped and we end up with guys out of position etc etc.

Well it happened last Sunday! Stand off and ace kicker Lee Cassell got a dead leg in training on Thursday and thought he could shake it off but at 2.30 on Sunday it was decided he could not play. Good old Tak was talked into going onto the bench and Pete Roberts started at stand off in a reshuffled back line with Ian Bowden coming in on the wing. It ended up in another cup final defeat and it is fair to say we gifted Broadstreet a few points. We were ahead early in the second half though when Reg scored his normal cup tie try but the sin binning of PC Whitehurst was critical and we then lost ground to eventually lose 24-8. Broadstreet were good but not that good and I think we will always believe that if we had gone into the game with our normal back line, including Tak, we may might just have won!

The Kenilworth crowd were big and very supportive and the bar was full on Sunday night and a good time was had by all. Thanks boys, it was agreat effort and a good day out.

On the Saturday the two's lost in the last minute to Bedworth but the threes had a good win away at Coventrians.

On Saturday it is back to league action at Newbold, 3pm kick off. Broadstreet are at home to Newport and here is hoping that Newport can take at least a point off them to set up the big one on the 22nd. If we win both our remaining league games then we will guarantee ourselves a home play off, probably against Peterborough.

As at 31st March

Ask any of the Kenilworth supporters and players what they would like best and it would be to win the Warwickshire Cup. Well this Sunday we have our chance when we play in the Cup Final at The Butts against Broadstreet, kick off 3pm. The passion shown by our home grown talent helped to get us through our semi final and here is hoping (and praying) that this is repeated on Sunday and our talented team get one of their just rewards for a superb season - a win in the cup. The other goal of promotion to Midlands 1 is still on and we were getting quite excited last week hearing that Broadstreet were drawing going into injury time at Barkers however their injury time penalty meant they scraped home 6-3 to maintain their 2 point and 100 points points difference advantage on us. We did have a chance to reduce this difference on Sat v Stafford but I think we would have taken the 50-12 win against tricky opponents if asked at the onset. So it is looking more like a play off, probably against Peterborough and if we win our last two games it will be at Kenilworth, Sat 29th April. Keep an eye on Midlands 2 east though as there is still quite a lot to happen there.

Back to the Cup Final - we will be at near full strength but the bad news is that Tak has not made it and will be water boy. A supporters coach will leave the club at 2pm and will return 30 minutes after the game. The clubhouse will be closed from 2 to 5 (or later if extra time) and will be open at night to hopefully celebrate a win - our first ever. Even in defeat (god forbid) it will be open late.

Come along and shout for the boys - they will be trying their hardest - you bet.

AS AT 23RD MARCH

WE NOW KNOW OUR WARWICKSHIRE CUP FINAL OPPONENTS - LAST NIGHT BROADSTREET BEAT RUGBY LIONS 10-6 WITH A TRY IN THE CLOSING MINUTES FROM MICK CURTIS. FINAL IS 2ND APRIL AT THE BUTTS, 3PM KICK OFF.

As at 21st March

I certainly do not recommend "watching" Kenilworth in Rome in a cup semi final via text messages from the coach, especially in a tight a game as they had last Sunday v Barkers Butts and when he winds you up near the end. However, the lads did us proud and rounded off a superb weekend (well maybe not for everyone) with a 31-23 win. There were tries from Jimmy Middleton, Rob Varney (a cracker I hear) and Paul Whitehurst and two conversions and four penalties by Lee Cassell but Barkers with an early try and six penalties from stand off Danny Richards were never out of it but it is Keneilworth who go ahead to the Warwickshire Cup final on Sunday 2nd April at 3pm. There they will play either Broadstreet or Rugby Lions who play the other semi final at Leamington on Wednnesday night.

One cup final we did not reach was the 20/20 where last Wednesday night we lost, rather tamely I undertsand, to Southam Dinosaurs.

No news of the second or third XV results last weekend and these will be posted when they are known.

On Sat 25th March our league games resume with a home game v Stafford - another must win match to keep the pressure on Broadstreet and to set up that thrilling last league game.

As at 15th March - HOT NEWS!

Kenilworth have acted quickly on the sending off of captain Rhidian Booth and banned him for two weeks. He will therefore not be selected for our Warwickshire Cup semi- final on the 19th against Barkers nor the league game v Stafford on the 25th March. It was considered that his offence equated to the Lower End of the Scale of Seriousness of 10 (4) (e) stiff arm tackle as per RFU guide-lines, this being a two week ban. This decision has been taken without the benefit of the Referees report which we await with interest.

Star stand off Tak Norton will also miss the cup game and the following league game after having to have five stitches in a head wound in the fiirst few minutes of the league game at OL's. Second row Mark Powell is also a doubt after dropping a slab on his toes!

The provisional squad for Sunday (2.15pm kick off ) at Stratford is:

1 E Hunter

2 R Varney

3 N Riley

4 M Powell

5 P Whitehurst

6 J Burnside

7 N Smith

8 G Eager

9 J Peacock

10 L Cassells

11 J Noon

12 P Roberts

13 A Taylor

14 J Middleton

15 A Whitehall

16 N Collett

17 S Taylor

18 I Bowden

19 C Buckle

20 D Carrick

21 N McComiskey

22 C Humphries

As at 13th March

Oh, woe is me! I go off to Dublin to support the boys only to hear that whilst the other boys won at Old Laurentians it was to the cost of Captain Booth being dismissed and Tak Norton having to go to hospital for five stitches in a nasty head wound. We won 12-7 in a real dour game and had tries from Jimmy Middleton and Lee Cassell and one conversion from Lee. However a win is a win but with Broadstreet winning a tight game at Newbold it is looking even more like a play off spot - this now being guarantied.

We could be missing both Tak and Rhydian for our cup semi next week at Stratford.

Kenilworth Seconds triumphed 38-15 at home to their Old Laurentian counterparts. There were tries for Alastair Johnson, Chris Humphries (who also converted four), Tom Skinner, Jamie Peacock, Ian Phillip and Ross Vanstone.

Kenilworth players and brothers Alex and Seb Taylor represented Sweden on Friday night – I have no idea who they played, what the score was and why they played!

As at 7th March

Another big win, this time at home to Malvern, 43-10 has almost certainly secured our play off spot and one point is needed from our remianing four games to finally seal it. We must keep winning though and hope that Broadstreet drop that elusive point to give us a chance of the championship and automatic promotion in our final game against them. Otherwise we will need to beat them something like 75-0! The east division is looking very interesteing and I suggest you look it up at www.rugbyroundup.com - what would be best for us would be if Peterborough came top and South Leicester second - this way we may get to host the game against South Leicester.

Our threes (and selected two's) travelled to Bicester and in a feast of rugby lost 60 (ish) to 40 (ish) - no scorers yet.

On Sat we are off to Old Laurnetians in another must win league game.

As at 1st March

No games for the ones last week and just as well as I happened to be at Murrayfield witnessing the 18-12 overture at first hand. Truly wonderful if you are a Scot that is!

Last week the two's and three's both played with different consequences. The 2's took on Rugby St Andrews first XV, Wayne Morgan and all, and had a thumping 39-14 win. I do not have the scorers yet. The 3's travelled to Rugby and had a thumping 0-51 defeat.

This weekend the ones are at home to Malvern and if we win we will have confirmed second spot and at least a play off spot against the runners up in Midlands 2 east. We can only hope that we keep winning and Broadstreet drop a point somewhere along the line to make our game on the 22nd Appril meaningful. If they and us keep winning we may need to beat them by 100points or so!

PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS A 3PM KICK OFF. There is an informal pre-match lunch of a buffet followed by cheese for £6 so if you fancy this then let Peter B know.

And finally I end this little new snippet with a question: "When did Shrove Tuesday last fall on a Friday" - answers in the programme on Saturday!

As at 20th Feb

A gritty win away at Stoke has almost guarantied Kenilworth of at least a play off spot. Tak Norton came good with two tries and again Lee Cassell was on the score sheet with a try, two conversions and three penalties. The game saw the debut of flanker Nick Luntley as a second half sub. Check out Bob Jones' match report where he delicately describes the intrusion of a lady onto the pitch during the second half of the game. Fortunately she did not streak!

Kenilworth 2’s 31 Earlsdon 2’s

K’s try scorers were Paddy Flavelle, Andy Fox (2) and Jai Purewal. Andy Fox had two conversions and one drop conversion by Jai Purewal.

Kenilworth 3’s 36 Rugger Buggers (touring team) 19

Tries for Trefor Jenkins, Andy Povey, Tom Harrison (2), Tim Driffel and Mark Bennett. Two conversions for Chris Sibley and one for Tom Harrison.

As at 13th Feb

Kenilworth duly avenged one of their two league defeats with a truly awesome performance against a very plucky and determined Hinckley. The score was 77-3 and in truth it left the crowd a wee bit stunned, saying it was the best performance seen recently at Glasshouse Lane. There were ten tries with four for Andy Whitehall, two for Seb Taylor (in his debut as a second half sub) and singles for Tak Norton, Ed Hunter, Jez Noon and Lee Cassell. Lee was also on fire with the boot and converted nine of the ten tries and was successful with three penalties. Quite ironically the one conversion he missed was a relatively easy one! The London Pride man of the match went to the whole squad. This win keeps us hard on the heals of Broadstreet who won 20-12 against Malvern. To win the league and automatic promotion we need to keep on winning and hope that the Street drop a point or two to set up a big championship decider on the last league Saturday - 22nd April. If we come second then there will almost certainly be a play off against Midlands 2 east runners up, home advantage going to the team with the best points record.

BARKERS BUTTS 2’s 5 KENILWORTH 2’s 13

The seconds also had a good win but the game was marred by the popular prop John Vincent breaking his ankle. There were tries for Rupert Smart and Chris Humphries, and one pen and one con by Humphries.

CLAVERDON 2’s 7 KENILWORTH 3’s 27

NO SCORERS AVAILABLE YET - let me know if you know!

Sat 18th Feb – Stoke away in league in another must win game

Kenilworth have drawn Barkers Butts in the semi final of the Warwickshire Cup to be played 19th March at Stratford. The other semi pits Broadstreet and Rugby Lions at Bedworth. The final is on 2nd April.

As at 30th Jan

Kenilworth retained the Midland Oak cup with another comprehensive win over old rivals Leamington, this time 42-5, away at Leamington. We ran in five tries from Jimmy Middleton, Tak Norton, Rhydian Booth, Glen Eager and James Burnside and Lee Cassell was on form with the boot being successful with four conversion and three penatlies. The draw betwen Hinckley and Newport now means there is a six point cushion between us in second and Newport in third and we are looking good for at least that second place play off spot. Broadstreet appear to keep on winning and we need them to start dropping points to get above them and the automatic spot.

Our two's also did well winning 40-7 but the three's went down 10-27.

Featuring for the two's was Seb Taylor, brother of Alex and they were like two peas in a pod when they weretogether in the club. Seb, as well as the other new boy Ian Phillip, were both very impressive and Seb, a Swedish Internationalist like his brother Alex, has signed forms.

As at 23rd Jan

A much belated Happy New Year to all our readers and apologies for not up dating the web site - this was caused by me getting a new computer over the Xmas period.

Since the last up date we have kept on winning and have retained our second place in the league and reached the semi final of the Warwickshire Cup.

Following the great win at Newport we then defeated Barkers at home 12-3 in a tense struggle and last Sat saw off Camp Hill 26-3. In the intermediate week we defeated Suton Coldfield 55-12 in the cup.

We have two new players to announce – both of whom have viewed our web site (www.kenilworthrugby.co.uk) and decided we are the club for them. Ian Phillips is a No8 who has played with Southend and last season attended and played for Harper Adam College in Shropshire. He is a local lad (well near Stratford) and is just back from an extended holiday in New Zealand. Alastair Johnson has been playing in London for Hammersmith & Fulham but has been moved north with his job. He is a full back/winger and believe it or not has also attended and played for Harper Adams College.

Last Sat the two's drew 14-14 at their Camp Hill counterparts but the three's lost to Southam 2's, 0-37.

On Wed night (25th) there is the next round of 20/20 games at Leamington.

Regular up dates from now on in - promise!

As at 19th Dec

THE NEXT TRAINING SESSION WILL BE ON 31ST DEC AT 1PM AT THE CLUB. TRAINING WILL THEN RE-COMMENCE ON TUESDAY 3RD JAN.

Well we went to second placed Newport and, with an awesome performance, particularly from the forwards, we won 19-13 to move into second place in the league, two points behind Broadstreet and one ahead of Newport. Two tries for Andy Whitehall and Captain Booth with Jamie successful with three penalties. We now have a break through to our next league game v Barkers Butts at home on the 7th Jan.

The two's decided on a weekend off for their Xmas shopping but the three's took on Tamworth and won 22-14 with tries for Dom Carrick, Ian Bowden and Andy Fox (8-9-10!) and two cons and one pen by Andy Fox.

The next Cougars game is on Wed 28th Dec at Leamington against Southam - 8pm kick off. If anyone is interested in playing then contact either Tony Philpott or Charlie Brown.

There is also an in house game on Boxing Day at the club, 12.30 kick off. Prior to this the club will be open on Xmas Eve - including a Happy Hour!

As at 14th Dec

We are back on the rails after a superb 60-10 win over Newbold at home last Sat with three tries for Takerei and two for Jez and singles for James Burnside, Andy Whitehall, Pete Roberts, Nick Smith and Dom Carrick. Jamie Peacock made a welcome return with five conversions.

The good (or was it bad!) news then filtered through from Newport that they had beaten Broadstreet at home to make it tight at the top and we go to Newport this Sat (17th)!

The two's went to Newbold and won 22-7.

The games were followed by the Fancy Dress party and a sing song courtesy of Andy Honess - a great night was had by all and many thanks Andy.

As at 5th Dec

No update last week as Copsewood did not turn out for the cup game and this now leaves us with a home tie against Sutton Coldfield who got though courtesy of Old Coventirans not tuning up. This will be played on Sunday 15th Jan.

The two's travelled to Warwickians 1's and were welcomed with something they were not expecting so much so Charlie took his lads off after 50 minutes to avoid further punishment typified by Jake Marvelly going off after two minutes with broken ribs and Jimmy Middleton's black eye. We were winning 12-5 at the time with two tries for Charlie Brown and a Chris Humphries conversion.

No such antics as the third XV beat Warwickins 2's 32-15 at home.

On the Wednesday the Cougars defeated the Medics 20-19 in a thrilling 20/20 game that the Medics just lost out on by missing a conversion with the last kick of the game.

On Sat 3rd Dec a huge travelling support turned out for the eagerly anticipated league game at Broadstreet and it is a pity the team did not!

A very disappointing display against a much more 'professional' Broadstreet team - no excuses and a 32-8 defeat which now drops us to third in the league behind Newport. The battle is on with Newport for second place me thinks !

RUGBY LIONS TAILENDERS 0 KENILWORTH 2's 50

A game played on the wide open spaces of Rugby's first team pitch suited Kenilworth who ran in eight tries from Jimmy Middleton (2), Tom Sharples (2), Mark Nicholas, Drew Dingley, Andy Fox and Dave Paradise. Single conversion for Andy Fox and four for Jamie Peacock.

BROADSTREET 3's 24 KENILWORTH 3's 19

A superb closely fought encounter with K's just missing out on a win. Tries for Keith Wise, Simon Dunn and Dave Finley. Two conversions by Andrew Currie.

Next week Newbold at home, 2.15 kick off.

This is preceded by a Xmas Lunch and is followed by the Annual Fancy Dress party, theme Hollywood stars and all are welcome.

As at 21st Nov

What a superb result for Kenilworth defeating the league leaders 41-24 in the fog at Glasshouse Lane, despite giving Newport a 12 point start with some very slack opening play and defence.

Kenilworth try scorers were Glen Eager with two, Charlie Brown, Andy Whitehall, Nick Smith and Tak Norton. Lee Cassell had four conversions and one drop goal but the London Pride man of the match went to prop Ed Hunter. Newport never gave up and ended the game with a try in the descending gloom.

The two's did not play and the threes went to Southam and won 6-3 but I have no news of the scorers yet.

Next Sunday is the Warwickshire Cup first round game v Copsewood (formerly known as Marconi)- kick off 2.15.

The following week is the big one, away at Broadstreet.

As at 14th Nov

A superb win for Kenilworth to set up 'the big one' next week at home to leaders Newport on Sat. Start was similar to both Leamington and Walsall with the end being somewhat similar to Walsall when Barkers fought back well to get within striking distance only for Tak to seal the game late on. Try scorers were Lee Cassell with two, Jez Noon, Pete Roberts and Tak Norton, two conversions by Lee Cassell.

WARWICKSHIRE SECOND XV CUP, SECOND ROUND

KENILWORTH 13 BEDWORTH 27

A disappointing performance by Kenilworth second XV who bowed out of the Second XV cup to a Bedworth XV who played much more like a unit and who had a good mix of young and old talent. A well deserved win for Bedworth.

Scoring sequence

try for Bedworth, not converted 0-5

Kenilworth quick tap penalty by scrum half Ian Bowden off loaded to hooker Neil McComiskey to go in under the posts, try converted by stand off Nick Langford 7-5

Nick Langford penalty for K's 10-5 (and K's looking good at this point!)

K's under pressure and flanker James Nicholson yellow carded for pulling back a Bedworth player en route to scoring.

Bedworth try, not converted 10-10

Straight from kick off Bedworth try, not converted 10-15

Half time 10-15

Bedworth try, converted 10-22

Yellow carded Nicholson returns!

Kenilworth penalty by Nick Langford 13-22

Bedworth try, not converted 13-27

Game finished with Kenilworth pressure but Bedworth playing out time with sensible forward rolls and long kicks back to K's territory.

BARKERS BUTTS 10 KENILWORTH 3's 5

K's try scorer was Tom Bell

As at 7th Nov

A disappointing result for Kenilworth especially after going ahead 17-0 in the first quarter and shipping ten points when Walsall went down to fourteen men with a sin binning!

Dreams of Twickenham put on hold for another year!

LONG BUCKBY 1's 37 KENILWORTH 2's 7

What was anticipated to be a hard task for Kenilworth 2's proved correct against an efficient Long Buckby ones proved correct with only a Huw Duggan try for comfort, converted by Paddy Flavelle.

KENILWORTH 3's 21 RUGBY ST ANDREWS 2's 31

Kenilworth third XV squad mirrored their first XV by squandering a 21-0 lead on the first game played at Kenilworth's proposed new first XV pitch at their Rocky Lane site.

Tries for Tom Nicholson, Tom Harrison and Ronnie Bachelor. Three conversions by Chey Dingley.

RUGBY ST ANDREWS 3's 16 KENILWORTH EXTRA 3's 5

Kenilworth extra 3's travelled to Rugby with an impressive squad of 20 but went down 5-16 with only a try from Mark McKinnon to show for their efforts.

Next week the ones are away at Barkers Butts in the league and the two's are at home to Bedworth in the second XV cup on Sunday.

On Friday 11th Nov there is a curry and quiz night at the club.

As at 31st Oct

A good workmanlike win at Camp Hill - nothing startling but a win. The game was disrupted by a bad injury to the Camp Hill flanker and the game was delayed some 20+ minutes just into the second half. We wish him well. Our scorers were James Burnside, Tak Norton, James Hersey and Jimmy Middleton with Jamie Peacock successful with two cons and one pen. We keep our second place in the league, one point behind Newport who, in their own words, struggled to beat Leamington. Hot on our heels though are the undefeated Broadstreet with five wins out of five. They are scoring lots of points and not conceeding a lot and are clearly, with Newport, the ones to watch. Barkers, our next opponents are not going too bad either with five wins out of six.

Our weakened two's went down 12-15 at home to Camp Hill with tries from Tom Harrison and Mark Nicholas and a conversion by Nick Langford.

Our threes had a truly miserable day out and lost to Old Leams 3's 0-45.

As at 28th Oct

well, after our stonking win over Leamington, we moved into second place in the league, one point behind Newport and tomorow we are away at Camp Hill. Camp Hill were promoted into the league this season and it will not be easy. There will be three changes from last week with Nick Smith out with a niggling injury, Pete Roberts out because of his dad's illness and Rob Hawthorn out because we banned him for four weeks for his sending off last week. Into the side comes Reg Varney at hooker, Jimmy Middleton on the wing with Jez moving inside to centre and Mark Powell in the second row - not a bad lot of 'replacements'!

the two's are at home to Camp Hill and the threes are at home to Old Leamingtonians.

On Sunday our U17's are at home to Earlsdon with a 11am kick off at the cow patch

the two's second XV cup win last week now pits them against Bedworth at home on Sunday 13th Nov

next week the ones are away at Walsall in the third round of the Intermediate Cup and this will be a very good one to watch and win

last Wed our 20/20 squad (the Kenilworth Cougars) inflicted even more pain on Leamington with a 57-0 win and it was great to see a lot of 'old boys, namely Chris Sibley, Jake Marvelly and Dan Sparkes together with a lot of young bucks. This has kicked off our 20/20 programme in great style and I will let you know when they are to appear again.

Dates for your diary

On Sunday 30th Oct the m&j section have organised a Halloween party commencing at 12 through to 2. All are welcome and there will be prizes given for the best dressed bairns and the usual Halloween games. More details can be had from George and Linda Edwards.

Fri 11th Nov - the return of the Quiz and Curry night with teams of four. There are posters on the wall to attach your name to or, alternatively, contact Dom Carrick or Ralph Murray.

Jenny Maisey has organised another Ladies Lunch this time for Sat 26th Nov. Contact her if you wish to go

The Xmas Lunch this year will be on the 10th Dec for our home game v Newbold (now coached by ex Broadstreet and Old Covents coach Bob Harcourt). This is also the night of the Players Fancy Dress bash.

The tickets for the Autumn Internationals have now been allocated and will be with you shortly. I managed to wangle an extra 12 for each game from the RFU so the threat of a ballot has been lifted. If we do not get any more for the Six Nations games then this will need to be a ballot.

and Finally, talking of the two stuffings we gave to Leamington last week reminded me of Dougie Day!. Dougie has now moved to Spain where he runs a delightful B&B. Beaky was out there last wek and had a superb time. Doug would like to hear from his old mates, and, even better, invite you out to his B&B for a small fee. His web site is www.casadia-bedar.com and his email address is info@casadia-bedar.com

and more Finally I cannot let the opportunity slip to advise that bookings are now being taken for next summer for Casa Caracol in Carvoeiro. See Willie W for more details.

As at 25th Oct

Well I said in the programme that when we click some one would get a tonking and I am proud to report that we clicked somewhat last Saturday and defeated Leamington 64-19 in a ten try spree - two each for Andy Whitehall, London Pride Man of the Match Glen Eager, Jez Noon and James Hersey and singles for Nick Smith and Pete Roberts. Jamie weighed in with six conversions and Lee Cassell came on and slotted the last. Our joy was someone disrupted when second row Rob Hawthorn got involved and was sent off in the last ten minutes. He was later followed by a Leamington man for fighting.

The joy continued into Sunday when our two's defeated Cov Welsh in the first round of the second XV Warwickshire Cup. There were three tries for Jimmy Middleton and one each for Ian Bowden, Andy Fox and Rupert Smart.

On the Saturday our threes lost to Leamington 3's by 14-15. Our lads were not too impressed by some of the Leamington players and Tim Driffill had to leave the field with a cut above his eye caused by a rather nasty head butt from a friendly Leamington player.

On wednesday night the Kenilworth Cougars make their debut in the Warwickshire 20/20 competition - kick off 7pm. Anyone interested then contact Charlie Brown.

On Sat we are at Camp Hill in the league.

As at 17th Oct

A good workmanlike win (32-13) for Kenilworth away at Northampton Old Scouts in the second round of the Intermediate Cup. We are however still not firing on all cylinders and the general feeling is that when we do someone is going to cop it. Here is hoping that day it is not too far off. Try scorers were back to form Pete Roberts, Rhydian Booth, Tak Norton (playing at scrum half) and James Burnside with stand off Lee Cassell adding the extra points.

The next round is on 5th Nov with the draw this week.

KENILWORTH 2's 14 BEDWORTH 2's 10

Two tries for Rupert Smart and two conversions for Ian Bowden.

KENILWORTH 3's 27 TRINITY GUILD 2's 42

2 tries for Ronnie Bachelor and Tom Nicholson, one for Andrew Clarke and one conversion for Andy Povey.

KENILWORTH extra 3's 19 PAG's LAG's 40 (played on Sunday)

K's try scorers were Tim Hunt, Ronnie Bachelor and Chris Roberts. Two conversions by Nick Hillard.

PL scorers were Ronnie Warwick, Mike Umaga, Chris Sibley, Andy Sellors, Charlie Brown and Jai Purewal. Three conversions by Jake Marvelly.

Next weekend is Leamington at home in the league - if you fancy a pre match lunch then contact Peter Blakeman.

On Sunday the seconds have their first round Warwickshire second XV tie at home against Coventry Welsh.

On the night of Wed 26th Oct there is the first 20/20 outing of KENILWORTH COUGARS at Leamington.

As at 10th Oct

What an awful weekend with the boys getting a stuffing (0-29) at Hinckley and Scotland losing to the mighty Belarus. The least said on both fronts the better I think.

The game saw a debut for fly half Lee Cassell, signed from Leicester Lions. Lee is a teacher at Kenilworth School.

NUNEATON 3's 19 KENILWORTH 2's 31

The two's did us proud though against an apparently strong Nuneaton 3's and there were tries for Ian Bowden 2, Charlie Buckle 1, Jamie McCance 1 and Chris Humphries 1. There were three conversions from Chris Humphries.

KENILWORTH 3's had no game as Hinckley 4's did not show.

On Sunday the U17's also did us proud with a good win at home to their Leamington counterparts. I stopped counting at around 60!

Next week sees us away at Northampton Old Scouts in the second round of the Intermediate Cup.

There is also a big game on the Sunday with PAG's Lags taking on the 3rd/4th XV - Iook out for some star performers turning out for PAG's Lags.

On the 22nd Oct we have Leamington at home in the league and there is a pre match lunch - if you wish to attend contact Peter Blakeman.

Work on the Training Pitch will be carried out at the end of this week and as from next week all training will be there.

As at 7th Oct

Apologies for the lack of up dates but I had my second eye op this week and I am just getting back into the swing of things. Should be ok from now bar the odd holiday in Portugal!

Last week we won against Stoke, 26-15, not pretty but deserved I think although this was not the opinion of the Stoke contingent. There were tries for Andy Whitehall, Jamie Peacock and Jez Noon and a penalty try. There were three conversions for the man who writes his own headlines, Jamie P and this now places him second in the kickers league but the top overall league scorer. If you have not seen his headline following the game against Malvern I suggest you locate a copy of the Kenilworth Weekly News!

People are saying our four out of four start is against the current bottom four teams but all we can say to that is that two of these teams, Malvern and Stoke were in the top four last year!

There were also good wins for the twos, 51-7 at Earsldon and the threes, 41-3 at Tamworth and a scratch extra thirds XV, with some borrowed players went down narrowly to Bedworth 3’s at home, 10-22.

We have some more signings to announce these being Lee Cassell a fly half from Leicester Lions and James Nicholson, a back row Medic Student. Lee is a teacher at Kenilworth School and will be a superb addition to our squad.

As at 26th Sept

Kenilworth continued their winning start to season with a 24-15 win away at Malvern. There were nineteen points for scrum half Jamie Peacock (2 tries, three conversions and one pen) and a try for skipper Rhydian Booth.

Bad injuries suffered by prop Nick Collett and Tak Norton who was unceremoniously speared on his head by his opposite number. There was a debut for 6ft 6" second row Tom Springer from Stourbridge. This win keeps Kenilworth on top of the league with three wins from three.

MALVERN 2's 20 KENILWORTH 2's 5

A first defeat of the season for a strong Kenilworth second XV with only a try from stand of Nick Langford to show for their efforts.

KENILWORTH 3's 43 COVENTRIANS 2's 15

Two tries each for Ronnie Bachelor and Tom Harrison and singles for Rod Jones, Jamie McCance and Jo Jawada. Four conversions for Chey Dingley.

Sat 1st October v Stoke at home in league. This is being preceded by a Former Players Association pre match lunch.

As at 23rd Sept

Sorry chaps but I have been off sunny myself in Portugal and, for once, it was a delight to get a call from Peter B teling me we had won 69-0 at Northamppton Casuals in the Intermediate Cup, first round. It was bit of a romp for a much changed Kenilworth team and there were three tries for Andy Whitehall, two for Glen Eager and James Burnside and one each for Nick Smith, Ian Bowden, Charlie Buckle and K Haapu - 11 in total. Chris Humpries was successful with seven conversions. Our reward for the win is yet anither trip to Northampton Old Scouts, a team we beat 33-32 in injury time some eight years ago.

Only one other score to report from last week and that was a 44-10 win at Aston OE for our second XV with two tries each for Paddy Flavelle, Andy Cummings and Tony Philpot and one for Rupert Smart. Andy Fox had one pen and two cons. Our threes played but no one has given me the score or scorers.

Tomorrow (24th) the ones and two's are off to Malvern and the threes are at home to Coventrians. On the bench for the ones will be our latest signing a 6'6" second row from Stourbridge and when someone tellls me his name I will tell you! The team is as near to full strength as we can get it with James Hersey playing his first league game of the season in the centre and his partner in tries from last year Peter Roberts on the bench.

We have now had notice of the ticket aplications for the Ireland and Wales games in Feb and March 2006. Ticket prices are £48, £55, £60 and £65 and applications should be sent to Willie W by the 12th October (cheques to KRFC Ltd).

As at 12th Sept

KRFC continued their good start to the season with a workmanlike win (25-6) over a young Old Laurentians squad. K's try scorers were James Burnside with two, Andy Whitehall and Tak Norton. New kicker Jamie Peacock was sucessful with one conversion and one penalty.

The London Pride man of the match for Kenilworth was full back Andy Whitehall.

The match saw the debut of two new New Zealanders, Mahana Stone and Kanohi Haapu who have joined Kenilworth from the Poverty Bay club YMP and through a connection from our former kiwi prop Huki Wilson.

There was a a warm feeling of satisfaction in the clubhouse after the game with this solid performance and if the chances that had been created from scintillating moves had all been taken then the score would have been greater. With the return of James Hersey next weekend and Pete Roberts in early October Ken's are building a formidable squad, both in the backs and the forwards.

OLD LAURENTIAN's 2's 0 KENILWORTH 2's 19

K's second XV continued their good start to the season with a win at OL's. There were tries by captain Charlie Brown, Andy Cummings and Rupert Smart and two conversions by Chris Humphries.

A further game was played at the club when a mix of 3rd and 4th XV players had an enjoyable run out as a 'loosener' to their forthcoming strenuous campaigns. One team won by 8 tries to 6 but no one was really counting!

The game saw the debut of Aussie prop Glen Whelan who impressed all. Glen has played for Townsville in Australia and also some rugby league.

Next week is the first round Intermediate Cup game away at Northampton Casuals, 3pm kick off

KRFC are delighted to announce that they have achieved sponsorship from London Pride for their man of the match award and the man of the match will now receive a case of beer and a London Pride rugby shirt.

As at 5th Sept

What a great start to our league season with a scintillating away win at Stafford. We should great guts and determination after we were reduced to 13 men when the ref sin binned Jamie Peacock and then captain Rhydian for asking why. This followed an earlier sin binning for second row Jean Visser during which time we shipped two tries to lose our 5-0 advantage and to go into the break 5-12 down, and with 13 men! What happened next will be remembered for a while by the big travelling support when the brave 13 took the game to Stafford and reduced the deficit to 8-12. When we returned to full strength we then ran in a number of superb tries to run out 50-12 winners. Our try scorers were Jimmy Middleton, Alex Taylor (2), Glen Eager, Charlie Buckle, James Burnside and Jez Noon with Jamie Peacock convering 6, two from the touch-line! In a superb performance it is difficult to single out individual players but special mentions must go to James Burnside and new boys Tak Norton and Glen Eager. Tak was given the man of the match award and a nice wee momento to boot. Andy Whitehall and Iestyn Pratt also had very pleasing debuts.

KENILWORTH 2's 26 SUTTON COLDFIELD 12

There were tries for Ian Bowden (2), Rob Wild and Chris Humphries and three conversions by Chris Humphries. Special mention must go to props Si Bladon and Graham Ballinger who were, to quote the captain, truly superb.

Next weekend (10th) the ones are at home to Old Laurentians in the league.

Arriving this week are two further Kiwis, a prop and a second row and both could figure on Saturday.

As at 1st Sept

The season is upon us already and we have our first league game on Saturday away at Stafford. There is a coach leaving the club at 12 noon for the 3pm kick off.

There is a seconds/thirds XV playing Sutton Coldfield at home on the 3rd Sept, also with a 3pm kick off so if you fancy a run out here then come down or contact Colin Dick or Tony Philpot.

We have been busy recruiting over the summer and new signings include No 8 Glen Eager, (Aston OE), scrum half/fly half Tak Norton (New Zealand), centre Iestyn Pratt (Southend), centre/fly half Nick Langford (Aston OE) and full back Andy Whitehall (Old Coventrians). Alex Taylor has returned to the club from Bracknell and Tom Kendall has returned from Ilkeston. Arriving next week are a further two Kiwis from Poverty Bay, a prop and a second row.

On the debit side we have lost Simon Givens, Adam Drew and Paul Rudland and Alex Stanojevic is off on his travels again. The dynamic duo Pete Roberts and James Hersey will not be available for the first few weeks of the season.

Our first round Intermediate Cup game is away at Nothampton Casuals on Sat 17th Sept.

Iestyn Pratt, a centre from Birmingham University/Southend

Andy Whitehall, a full back/centre from Old Coventrians

Last week the lads travelled to Shelford for a pre season game. All I can report is that Dom rang the club and said that we lost the first half but won the second half. However we did not win the second half by as much as we lost the first half so I guess we lost!
