Newbold 2nd XV 10 vs Kenilworth 2nd XV 32

The 2XV travelled to Newbold's Parkfield Road ground to play the hosts in a Warwickshire 2XV fixture. Playing up the slope on a very warm day the K's pressed hard early with good bursts from Luke Brown, Max Povey and Tom Nicholson. Newbold opened the scoring with a penalty after some lax defence but some booming kicks from hand by Andy Fox saw Kens regain
good territory. Following a scrum offence Jamie Peacock took advantage for a quick tap and glided over for the opening try. The scrum had become more settled after being under some pressure from a heavier Newbold 8, this led to another scrum penalty for wheeling. Again Peacock took a quick tap and alert back row Dom Carrick was in support to crash over for another try.
Newbold responded with a careering run by their "stocky" fly half who moving quickly downhill resembled the proverbial snowball down a mountain and eventually ended up over the Kens line.

The 2nd half saw Kenilworth play sensible rugby utilising the slope with an excellent kicking game from Fox, Povey and Peacock. Tom Nicholson ran the lineouts and quality ball carrying from Ross Lowthian and Jack Gibson on his comeback from a broken jaw ensured the home side were under constant pressure.

Flowing moves saw tries for Rhys Llewellyn and Max Povey as
well as a try from the outstanding No 8 Tom Nicholson. Kenilworth's fitness was certainly an advantage on a hot day and despite the squad being slightly makeshift, the players adapted well and played high paced territory rugby. The 2XV is developing into a decent unit with excellent team spirit and a mix of young tyros and old heads.
