Kenilworth RFC is one of the leading clubs in Warwickshire and over the past twenty two years has mainly played at Levels 5 and 6, with occasional short periods at level 7. Details of our league status over the years can be found HERE.
Season 18/19 was our most successful with a record breaking league title win (Mids 2 west south) and Midlands Intermediate and National Intermediate Cup success. Our Head Coach for this successful season was David Ellis, working with our ex Colt Will Maisey and George Oram acting as Backs’ Coach and Forwards’ Coach respectively, alongside their playing commitments at Coventry Rugby Club. These three coaches are in place for the 19/20 season and are joined by Rich Allen who takes over from Adam Turner as 1st XV Manager.
David Ellis is one of the most highly-regarded defence coaches in world rugby, having previously worked with Tonga, New Zealand and most notably France at international level, following an extensive playing career in rugby league. During his 11-year tenure with France, he won the Six Nations on five occasions (including two Grand Slams), helped mastermind France's famous quarter-final victory over the All Blacks at the World Cup in 2007 and reached the final of the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand. He also brings a vast amount of professional club rugby experience in both England and France through his coaching roles at Gloucester and London Irish, as well as across the water at Racing, Bordeaux, Castres, Brive and Lyon.
Kenilworth RFC operates an open door policy to new players wishing to get involved, whether it is to push yourself to be the best player you can be or to earn yourself a well deserved pint after the game. Players of all levels are encouraged to come down and see what Kenilworth has to offer.
Training is held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 7pm, and all are welcome. These nights are generally for 'serious' players at 1st XV, 2nd XV and Colt level, although this does not exclude keen players from the 3rd XV. Training is either on the main pitch or at the Cow Patch (Rocky Lane) site. There is also touch rugby on a Wednesday evening on the main pitch at 7pm and this is open to all with a good mix of players turning up and playing regularly.
Any prospective new player should simply turn up for training and make themselves known to the Director of Rugby, Jai Purewal, 1st XV Team Manager, Rich Allen, the Head Coach, David Ellis or the 1st XV captain, Bobby Thompson. For a more informal chat, feel free to contact our Director of Men’s Rugby, Jai Purewal on 07968 135023 or email@example.com.
