Kenilworth RFC has always been one of the leading clubs in Warwickshire and over the past twenty three years has mainly played  at Levels 5 and 6, with occasional short periods at level 7. Details of our league status over the years can be found HERE.

Season 18/19 was our most successful with a record breaking league title win (Mids 2 west south) and Midlands Intermediate and National Intermediate Cup success. Our Head Coach for this successful season was David Ellis, working with our ex Colt Will Maisey and George Oram acting as Backs’ Coach and Forwards’ Coach respectively, alongside their playing commitments at Coventry Rugby Club.  Last season(19/20) we were denied furthe promotion when the season ended prematurely due to the Covid19 virus.

Following the success of the Dave Ellis era, it is all change for the 2020/21 Season.

The new coaching set up for the 20/21 season comprises Phil Boulton, assisted by Todd Freemantle and Rhidian Booth. Jake Burrows takes on a coaching role with the Colts. Jai Purewal remains as Director of Rugby, with Adam Turner as 1st XV Manager assisted by Rich Allen.  Phil Boulton recently held the position of Head Coach with Newbold RFC, having previously held the same role with Earlsdon RFC. He currently plays tighthead prop for Coventry RFC in the Championship, where he also holds the club captaincy alongside his role as Head Coach for their Under-18s team.

Further key coaching and managerial appointments for the 2020/21 season are:

Todd Freemantle, as Player/Backs Coach. Todd is well-known and respected throughout Midlands Rugby, bringing a wealth of playing and coaching experience from his tenures at Rugby Lions, Coventry, Broadstreet and Earlsdon.

Rhidian Booth, as Assistant Forwards Coach. Rhidian joined Kenilworth for the 04/05 season and was 1st XV Captain in 05 /06, playing until 07/08. After a few years out, he returned for the 17/18 season and was a part of our Treble-winning squad in 2018/19.

We are also very pleased to announce that former Kenilworth player, Jake Burrows, will be joining the Colts setup as Backs Coach. A product of our Mini and Juniors section, Jake returns after forging a career in teaching. Jake joins the existing Colts coaching team of Ed Hunter, John Brain and Brian Armstrong, with Peter Cox retaining his position as Colts Manager.

Nick Collett joins the management team as 2nd XV Manager. Another product of our Minis and Juniors section, Nick has played over 300 games in the front-row for the club, first making his 1st XV debut over 20 years ago, and is a true KRFC stalwart.

Adam Williams retains his position as Head Physiotherapist, and is again assisted By Katie Brown, with Luis Mendia now holding the position of Senior Medical Advisor to the Senior section.

Kenilworth RFC operates an open door policy to new players wishing to get involved, whether it is to push yourself to be the best player you can be or to earn yourself a well deserved pint after the game. Players of all levels are encouraged to come down and see what Kenilworth has to offer.

Training is held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 7pm, and all are welcome. These nights are generally for 'serious' players at 1st XV, 2nd XV and Colt level, although this does not exclude keen players from the 3rd XV. Training is either on the main pitch or at the Cow Patch (Rocky Lane) site. There is also touch rugby on a Wednesday evening on the main pitch at 7pm and this is open to all with a good mix of players turning up and playing regularly.

Any prospective new player should simply turn up for training and make themselves known to the Director of Rugby, Jai Purewal, 1st XV Team Manager, Adam Turner, the Head Coach, Phil Boulton or the 1st XV captain, Bobby Thompson. For a more informal chat, feel free to contact our Director of Rugby, Jai Purewal on 07968 135023 or   dor@kenlworthrugby.co.uk
