KENILWORTH RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
At their recent Annual General Meeting the Management Committee of Kenilworth Rugby Football Club announced that their planned relocation to a new site adjacent to the of the new residential development to the south of Kenilworth Cricket could not now take place in time for the 2021 – 2022 season as previously announced.
Representatives of the rugby club stated that following the protracted negotiations with the Landowners, which have been on-going for 4 years, they are extremely disappointed that an agreement for the acquisition of the new site had not been achieved within a reasonable time, despite the best efforts of the Club and their representatives.
The new site, designated for external sports use, was allocated within the adopted Warwick District Local Plan following representations by the Club and the Landowners. On the basis that the Landowners had provided land for the relocation of the Rugby Club the same Landowners received an allocation for the residential development to the south of the cricket club which is now about to be developed by Bovis Homes.
KRFC confirmed that they had reluctantly had to advise Warwick District Council that the Club were now not in a position to release their existing grounds for residential development as planned as an essential part of the East of Kenilworth Development.
The matter was discussed at the Warwick District Council Executive Committee meeting held on 10th July 2019 and approval was given to prepare a Draft Compulsory Purchase Order for the acquisition of the land. The Council will now be writing to the landowners to advise that they intend to commence the process to acquire the land and will then write to the Secretary of State to formally begin those proceedings.
The relocation of the Rugby Club is viewed as an essential part of the delivery of the East of Kenilworth Development and Kenilworth RFC are hopeful that with the assistance of Warwick District Council the new ground will now be available for the 2022 -2023 season.
