KENILWORTH RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
As Kenilworth Women travelled to Buckingham Swans last Sunday, the squad knew this top of the table clash was always going to be close.
Although they didn’t manage to secure a win at home, the Women were keen to put out a strong performance on Swans’ own turf, and they certainly delivered.
A tight game from the first whistle, our Women put in some sterling defence, but could quite finish their carries in the windy, damp conditions.
With both teams holding out for 30 minutes, it took a penalty kick from fly half Sarah Munday to put the first and only three points of the half on the board.
The second half didn’t start as well with Buckingham quickly crossing the whitewash to tot up 10 points but the determination of our pack led to a score from prop Aimee Dymek.
Neck and neck during the whole of the last 40, a score from both sides, including a fantastic finish by our Women’s fullback Frankie Bowler took the teams to 15 all.
Having defended strongly for the majority of the half, a strong run from a Swans’ prop in the final play of the game undid our Women’s hard work and put the final score at 15-20.
Co-captain Caroline Spence said: “This was a tough one for all of us. Once the dust has settled and we’ve had time to reflect we’ll be able to take a look at what didn’t quite go right for us and set our work ons for training next week.
“Co-captain Becky, the coaching team and myself are so proud of the grit and determination the whole squad showed today. Sometimes matches don’t go your way, but we can’t knock the hard working attitude that each individual player continues to put in.”
