WEST BRIDGFORD LADIES 7 KENILWORTH WOMEN 35
Kenilworth Women narrowly missed out on promotion from the Championship Midlands 2 league this weekend after a strong win against West Bridgford away.
With just one point between them and first place Buckingham Swans, who will now go into the promotion playoffs, the Women put out a strong performance and came away with a bonus point win on Sunday.
West Bridgford started out strong though, denying our Women with great defence in the first forty until fly-half Sarah Munday put three points on the board with a penalty kick and loosehead prop Christie Foster drove over the line for the first try of the game.
In the second half however, our Women gained momentum, with fullback Emma Dootson coming hot off the blocks with a well-worked try, ably converted by fly-half replacement Katie Pittaway.
Although West Bridgford responded with a great individual try from their flanker, our pack stood up to the test, with number 8 Rachel Bennett scoring off the back of a driving scrum around the 60 minute mark.
It was then left to winger Phoebe Howles and two more scores from Emma Dootson to wrap up the afternoon, with the final score ending at 35-7.
Captain Rebecca Hill said: “We’re so happy to have ended a great season on such a fantastic win today. It is a shame that we’ve missed out so narrowly on the top spot, but we’ve built so much on last year’s performance and are so excited for what next year will bring.
“We’ve also got our Intermediate Plate fixture to look forward to on Super Saturday (Kenilworth Women v Drybrook Ladies at 11.30 and Kenilworth Men v Newbold at 3pm) this weekend. We’d really appreciate any support people can bring, it promises to be a great day and we can’t wait to see you all there!”
