Kenilworth Rugby Club

Weekly newsletter

Two wins since my last news and we now have a four point lead at the top of the league courtesy of bonus point wins over Old Coventrians (20-5) and Rugby St Andrews (37-13), the latter being the start of the return league fixtures. In between we also progressed to the 1/4r final of the Warwickshire Shield courtesy of a 34-17 win at Old Laurentian. A very good Christmas period! Not so good for the Ladies who exited the Intermediate Cup (24-49 v Bletchley) and lost (20-50 to Lichfield Ladies II’s) in the league last week. The reports of all games are now on the web site.

This weekend the 1st XV Men have Silhillians at home and this is now a League and Shield double header after the draw was made for the Shield earlier in the week. Silhillians are currently lying in 6th spot in the league with six wins and six losses. It is never an easy game against them and, to be truthful, we were lucky to escape with a bonus point win in the September fixture. Our 2nd XV are down at play at Silhillians and our Colts are away at Earlsdon. On Sunday our ladies take on 3rd placed Buckingham Swans, at home, 2pm.

Before the Saturday game with Silhillians there is our annual Volunteers lunch.

Next weekend, 19th Jan, we have a very big game against Olney in the semi final of the Midlands Division of the RFU Intermediate Cup and the guys would love a big travelling support to cheer them on. Olney lies to the south east of Northampton and to the north east of Newport Pagnell and is around 50 miles away, about 1 hr using the M45 and M1 (junction 15). The address is East Street, Olney, MK46 4DW.  Should we win then we will be in the final of the Midlands Division against either Old Laurentian or Kidderminster. The winners of the Midland Division will then play the winners of the North Division for a place in the Twickenham final.

I have been advised that the tickets for England’s warm up games for the World Cup are now on sale and full details on how to apply are on the homepage of the web site (news).

On the 25th January we are holding a Burns Night and posters for this event are around the club and can be accessed HERE.

We have had it confirmed that the Almanack are still offering a 10% discount on food and drink bills and if you are a member and eat and drink there then ask for it! It does not apply to drinks only.

On Wednesday 17th Jan the Ladies are holding an ‘Inner Warrior’ event on Wednesday 17th January at 7-8.30pm on the main pitch.
