KENILWORTH RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
The 1st XV continued their winning streak and in the last two weeks they have defeated Olney to reach the final of the Midlands Intermediate Cup and strengthened their lead at the top of Mids 2 west south with a win at Barkers.
I have been told that the win at Olney was possibly better than the big win at Kidderminster and it was a thoroughly professional performance only marred by the loss of two late tries. It was the first home defeat Olney had suffered all season. Our reward is a home final against Kidderminster (who defeated Old Laurentian in the other semi final) and this will be on 16th March. The winners of this final will then play the winners of the Northern final on the 20th April for the chance to play in the final (against the London and South winners) at Twickenham, currently scheduled for 4th May.
The 1st XV’s bonus point league win at Barkers last week was all the better when news came through of the defeat of Kidderminster at Silhillians and it is now Old Laurentian who are second in the league eight points behind us.
The 2nd XV also performed incredibly well last week and defeated Spartans 20-14 in the semi final of the Warwickshire 2nd XV Shield to progress to a final against Leamington, this to be played on Sunday 3rd March at Barkers Butts (KO 3pm).
The Colts completed a clean sweep with a tremendous 24-12 win over Lutterworth, the Leicestershire County champions.
The reports on all games are on the web site together with pics of the 1st & 2nd XV games.
This weekend, weather willing, the 1st XV Men have a home league fixture against the only team to defeat us this season, Earlsdon. They are currently lying in 4th spot with nine wins from the fourteen games to date. The game is being sponsored by AJA Architects and they are hosting a pre match lunch. The 2nd XV are down to play Earlsdon away with the Colts having a weekend off. Last week’s game was a big one for Mikkel Andresen, this being his 100th first XV game for the club.
On Sunday 3rd Feb our Ladies have a very, very big game away at Old Leamingtonians and victory there would almost certainly secure their place in Level 3 of Women’s rugby for next season. Kick off is 2pm and the Ladies would love to see a very big Kenilworth support there.
Our Colts have been drawn at home to Old Leamingtonians in the Warwickshire Colts Cup and this is to be played on 9th February, probably on the main pitch.
I have been advised that the tickets for England’s warm up games for the World Cup are now on sale and full details on how to apply are on the homepage-News pages of the web site (news).
