26 JUNE 2021

By PAG Jones

As the UK and KRFC emerges from the darkness of lockdown  into the sunlight uplands of what passes for a British summer  the club hosted a highly successful (socially distanced ) Midsummer Family Fun Day on Saturday 26 June at Le Stade des Vaches (AKA the Cow Patch)

Over the course of the day players from all of the clubs teams from 6 year olds to 61 years old, male & female, were actively involved in the day`s events which also engaged with  many enthusiastic parents and spectators.

The event was a logistical epic (nearly) on a par with  HS2 and had involvement and support from all sections of the club .

Each of the minis and juniors sides up to under 13`s organised their own events during the course of the day including training practices and end of season awards.

One of the highlights of the day was the mixed 6 a side touch competition in which 10 sides participated with players ranging  in age from 14 to 61.  Behaviour across the board was exemplary without a yellow card or a naughty step all afternoon!

The teams were divided into 2 groups of 5 with  the 5 play offs  being between the equivalent teams in each group . Despite fielding ex Kenilworth hero Will Owen and his dad “silver fox” Glyn the 1st xv were pushed into the 3-4  play off by former colts team playing as the Sunam while the Babas topped  the other group.

The final went  sudden death and was won by a golden try from Ryka for the glory of the younger side

The final results were

1 Sunam

2 Babas

3 Colts

4 men’s 1

5 Trojans

6 Spartans

7 U16

8 phantoms

9 buccaneers

10 u16 coaches
