On Friday night Kenilworth’s senior men travelled down the M40 to take on Banbury RFC in the first run out of the season for both sides.
Played over 3 twenty minute periods the pre season fixture saw both sides make a good account of themselves, with the home squad both larger in number and man for man than the visitors on the day.
Whilst Banbury took the spoils overall, Kenilworth can be buoyed by the fact that we handed debuts to 4 new players (for 3 it was their first senior game) and though missing a number of key players, were highly competitive throughout, with our trademark high tempo play and resolute defence evident throughout.
Speaking of his sides performance, player/ coach Todd Freemantle said,
‘We targeted 2-3 areas of the game tonight, building on what we have so far covered in pre season- the players stood up really well and as coaches we were really happy with the take aways from the game.
There will be some sore bodies after the first proper contact work in some time, but come Tuesday we will be back to work, building toward our next test, [Old Northamptonians at home (Cow Patch) on Sat 20th August].’
