Kenilworth Juniors Embrace Video Analysis
Earlier this month, KRFC Men’s Head Coach, Phil Boulton delivered a video analysis session to the Under 14s squad, to give them an insight into the level of detail that the senior teams work to.
20 plus players, coaches and interested parents attended the session that focussed on reviewing the side’s recent loss to Ashby.
Phil Boulton, said:
‘In the professional game we have the luxury of time with our players so can go into great detail on analysis/ preparation both individually and as a team. Match video analysis is a significant part of this, be that looking back at how we performed or analysing the opposition ahead of a forthcoming fixture.
Club Director of Rugby, Jai Purewal said,
‘Video analysis is central to our ethos of ‘better people, better players’. It can be difficult at times because no one wants to be reminded of a mistake or missed opportunity, but it builds honesty and trust among the group. It also builds confidence in our teams when they take the field. As a club we have invested in technology to allow all Junior teams to become largely self-sufficient with ongoing access to video analysis. We believe this will give us an edge in developing more rounded players.’
U14s Coach, Jonathan Jenkins added,
‘This is the first time our lads have done anything like this and at first they were a bit overwhelmed, but they soon warmed into the session. Phil was brilliant, striking the right balance of praise whilst identifying areas for improvement. As a coaching tool the video is perfect because if we tell a player something and he doesn’t agree, the video never lies, importantly they see for themselves what they can do better next time.’
