Former Kenilworth player Asher Opoku-Fordjour has been selected in Ian Dickens’ England U20s match-day squad to play Scotland tonight (KO 19:00) when they open their 2023 Under-20 Six Nations campaign at Twickenham Stoop.
Opoku- Fordjour is one of 4 Sale Sharks players involved tonight, but owes a significant part of his rugby development to his time at a Kenilworth, playing through the M&J age groups alongside his brother David (a regular for Kenilworth Men this season) between 2014 and 2020.
Speaking on Asher’s ongoing success in the game, his former club coach Peter Cox said,
‘Asher played with us for a number of seasons, starting out on the wing and then as he started to grow and filll-out a bit, he moved to hooker and then to prop. He’s a great lad and we all wish him the very best of luck.’
Opoku- Fordjour follows the likes of Jacob Umaga to have played for Kenilworth before going on into the professional game and gaining International honours. Club Director of Rugby, Jai Purewal added,
‘We are delighted for Asher and his family, it’s a huge honour and well deserved. For Kenilworth RFC it’s a lovely thing to see our players go on to bigger things in the game and inspires our current players to dream big and reach for the stars.’
The game will be shown on BBC Sport website and app with coverage from 18:50.
